Barry’s Final Season Debuts With a Perfect Score in Rotten Tomatoes

May 2, 2023

With Succession coming to an end soon, HBO will have to say goodbye to another of its most acclaimed series of the last couple of years. Barry, the dark comedy created and starring Bill Hader, will come back tonight to the network’s screen for its fourth and final season, giving an epic conclusion to the story.

As it was expected, given the great performance of the show’s previous installments, the new season is ready to exceed expectations and is already showing it. The first reviews for the final run are excellent, and the series has debuted with a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, which gives fans a reason to smile now that the show is ending.

Barry is an ex-marine who works as a contract killer. He is a mercenary who obeys the highest bidder and has no remorse for what he does. Due to a job, he is forced to travel to Los Angeles, where he meets a group of aspiring theater actors and actresses by chance. Maybe that’s what Barry needs to fill the void he feels and renew his zest for life.

The contract killer begins to establish a relationship with a drama teacher and an aspiring actress but simultaneously finds himself harassed by a couple of gangsters. He must deal with his two lives, trying not to let one affect the other.

Barry stars Hader, Stephen Root, Sarah Goldberg, Glenn Fleshler, Anthony Carrigan, Henry Winkler, and Sarah Burns, among others.

What to Expect from Barry’s Final Season

HBO

While out on a mission to kill a target in Los Angeles, Barry stumbles his way into an acting class led by the egocentric but weirdly charming Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler), where he not only falls in love with the aspiring actress Sally (Sarah Goldberg) but falls in love with the art of acting. Unfortunately, his desire to leave his life of crime behind proves to be near impossible.

With its first three seasons, the series has received 44 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and has won nine. These include back-to-back wins for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Hader and one win for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for Winkler.

Hader has spent the last couple of years working non-stop on Barry, so we won’t see him soon in many projects except for a brief cameo in Beau is Afraid, Ari Aster’s latest film starring Joaquin Phoenix. The movie follows a middle-aged man with severe mommy issues who tries to return home, encountering a whole host of nightmares along the way.
