Ramin Bahrani To Write & Direct A New TV Series Adaptation Of John Steinbeck’s Classic Novel
Dec 19, 2022
This past summer, it was revealed that Florence Pugh was set to lead the cast of a new series adaptation of “East of Eden,” written by Zoe Kazan. But that’s not the only John Steinbeck novel getting a new TV adaptation, as it appears “The Grapes of Wrath” is on the horizon, as well.
According to Deadline, Fifth Season is producing a new TV series based on the novel “The Grapes of Wrath.” However, what makes this incredibly interesting isn’t just that it’s based on the classic American novel by John Steinbeck, but the adaptation will be written and directed by none other than Ramin Bahrani. Not much else is known about the new series at this time.

“The Grapes of Wrath” is a classic novel that tells the story of a family during the Great Depression as they are forced to leave their home in Oklahoma on a quest for a better life in California. The novel was adapted in 1940 by director John Ford as a feature film starring Henry Fonda. That film earned seven Oscar nominations, winning for Best Director and Best Supporting Actress.
Bahrani is probably best known for his work as the writer and director on the Netflix film, “The White Tiger,” which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay. He’s also the filmmaker behind the acclaimed feature “Chop Shop,” as well as “Man Push Cart,” “99 Homes,” and the HBO adaptation of “Fahrenheit 451.” His most recent work is as a director on the recent Apple TV+ series, “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey,” as well as the documentary, “2nd Chance.”
