Anthony Mackie Revs It Up in Peacock’s Twisted Metal Series Trailer

May 12, 2023

The first look at Anthony Mackie in Peacock’s Twisted Metal TV series has arrived. Almost two years after the show finally began production and 18 months on from Mackie’s casting in the lead, the video game adaptation is almost here, and the first footage promises it is going to be a wild ride.

Anthony Mackie has most recently been gearing up to take on the role of Captain America in his first MCU movie lead following more than a decade in the franchise as Sam Wilson aka Falcon. However, before he picks up the shield to take on his first big challenge as the Cap, Mackie will appear as John Doe in the Twister Metal series that has been written by Deadpool duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Check out the trailer below.

According to the blurb, the series is an action comedy that follows “a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.”

Mackie’s character is described as “a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, he gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish of finding community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of savage vehicular combat.” For fans of the PlayStation video game, this is an adaptation that they can’t wait to see and Mackie seems perfectly pitched in the role.

While video game-based movies and TV shows always used to come with a sense of trepidation and dread, there has been a strange shift in the landscape when it comes to adapting some the most loved video games of the last several decades. Twisted Metal arrives at a high point in the genre, coming in the wake of big screen successes such as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Sonic the Hedgehog, and this year’s huge HBO hit, The Last of Us.

Whether the apocalyptic vehicle combat story of Twisted Metal can reach those heights is still to be seen, but it is not the only video game adaptation coming soon. Jason Momoa will star in a live-action Minecraft movie, another season of The Last of Us is already being worked on, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is coming later this year and there are a host of Nintendo projects now being fast-tracked thanks to the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie.

Obviously shows like Twisted Metal have the advantage of bringing with them a dedicated fan base. If the show can keep those fans happy, then they have already won half the battle. All will be revealed soon when the series hits Peacock later this year.
