The Young Avengers Might not be Uniting Soon in the MCU
May 13, 2023
After introducing some of its most popular heroes, such as Iron Man, Captain America, and The Hulk, in its first phases, Marvel Studios is looking to expand its roster with characters from the Young Avengers.
In the near future, teams like the X-Men and The Fantastic Four are expected to take the lead in the MCU movies and series. The same was assumed for the Young Avengers, although it won’t be as soon as we suspected.
Characters like Kate Bishop, Eli Bradley, America Chavez, and Billy and Tommy Maximoff were introduced in Phase 4, with the idea that they could form their own group of heroes and replace their parents or mentors. Especially now that Kathryn Newton’s Cassie Lang will debut in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. But the union might not happen anytime soon.

When Will The Young Avengers Unite?
Marvel Studios
In a conversation with Inverse, the producer of the new Ant-Man movie, Stephen Broussard, gave a disappointing update on the Young Avengers project:
“There are no current plans for that. A lot of Phase Four was about introducing the next generation and introducing new characters. I think that’s one of the themes that the next generation reminds us, and that would be exciting to explore with Cassie going forward, or with any of the new characters, like Kate Bishop. People like that, who have inherited the mantle, and keeping to fight the fight, and make the world a better place.”
The Young Avengers were created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung and thought of as a team made up of various teenagers who have some relationship with a member of The Avengers. The characters appeared in a 4-issue miniseries tied to the events of Civil War titled Civil War: Young Avengers/Runaways in April 2005.
Additionally, they have some stories related to Secret Invasion, so the next Marvel Studios series that adapts this story arc could bring more information about the future of the group and its possible formation.
For now, the only new group that will feature one of the MCU’s youngest additions will be The Thunderbolts, with the participation of Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. She will be joined by Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen), Red Guardian (David Harbor), Bucky Barnes a.k.a Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), US Agent (Wyatt Russell), and Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), all led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus).
