Phil Lord & Chris Miller Confirm That Their ‘Spider-Noir’ Live-Action Series At Amazon Is Still Happening
May 25, 2023
Almost five years after “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse” hit theaters, its sequel, “Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse” swings into them early next month. In fact, the premiere of that movie is just eight days away, on June 2, with the trilogy-capping “Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse” arriving next year on March 29, 2024. And amid all of this, writers Phil Lord & Christopher Miller also have a “Spider-Noir” live-action series in the works at Amazon, but there’s been no news about that project since February.

So, of course, Collider had to ask the writing duo if that show is still in the works in a new interview? Their response? Lord answered quickly with a simple, “Yes,” but Miller hashed things out a little more. “It was [in development] until the writers’ strike and everything shut down,” Miller explained. “But once that gets resolved, we’ll get back into it. But it’s coming along nicely.” So, don’t worry, Spidey-fans: “Spider-Noir” is still a go, but it may not premiere on Prime Video as soon as possible.
A fan-favorite, Spider-Noir made his debut in the comics in 2009 as the Spider-Man on Earth-90214, in a gritty 1930s New York City. Spider-Noir’s Peter Parker gets his superpowers from poisonous spider hidden in a spider-god idol, and soon goes after the city’s criminal underworld. But Spider-noir got a big boost of popularity after “Into The Spider-Verse” since Nicolas Cage voiced the character in the 2018 film. So is there any chance the actor will play the live-action version of Spider-Noir? Apparently no one’s talked to Cage about starring in it yet, but Lord & Miller teased that it may be possible. When asked if there was a chance for Cage to take on the role, Lord said, “There is any chance.” That’s better than no chance, at least.
But before “Spider-Noir” happens, Lord & Miller must complete work on “Beyond The Spider-Verse” first. “Across The Spider-Verse” sees Miles Morales and a team of Spider-People from across the multiverse take on the villain The Spot, voiced by Jason Scwartzman. Morales’ biggest ally? Oscar Isaac‘s Miguel O’Hara, or Spider-Man 2099, who helps Morales get the various Spider-Men to team against their new foe.
And with any luck, the WGA writers’ strike will be over by the time “Beyond The Spider-Verse” hits theaters, so “Spider-Noir” may move ahead at Amazon. But stay tuned if Nicolas Cage will indeed be part of the project.
