The Flash was one of the biggest trailers to hit the Super Bowl this year, with many of the expected big teasers not appearing. For that reason, it is not that surprising The Flash won the game in terms of audience engagement, outpacing all other spots that dropped on Sunday. According to data released from EDO, which measured the online engagement of the spots straight after they appeared during the big game, the Super Bowl spot for this summer’s The Flash performed 24 times better than the median average.

To put this in context, other ads, such as Disney’s 100th Anniversary spot, had a 12.5 times measurement, and the 60-second trailer for Fast X had 4 times. This certainly suggests that there is a lot of interest in the upcoming DC movie. However, it could also be factored in that The Flash was the only trailer that did not release ahead of the game itself, with other big movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and even Fast X having released their footage earlier in the week.

When it comes to The Flash, there has been a lot of negativity around Ezra Miller’s personal life, but with the star seemingly getting back on track, the movie looks like it is speaking for itself in attracting the right attention. It certainly hasn’t been harmed by the inclusion of Michael Keaton as Batman, whose appearance in the trailer became one of the biggest talking points on social media.

How Will The Flash Reset the DCU?

Having been rumored and denied for a long time to be the reset button on the Snyderverse and the jumbled DCEU that it became, The Flash will indeed act as a catalyst for the coming changes to the DC franchise under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran. The new synopsis for the movie details a testing time for Miller’s Barry Allen as he causes some serious problems in the DC Universe. The synopsis reads:

“Worlds collide in The Flash when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”

While it seemed at one point that the movie was going to bring Michael Keaton’s Batman into the DCU for a longer stint, it appears that idea was cut short in the middle of the DCU adjustments of the last few months. However, with Jason Momoa suggesting that two Batmen will appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and James Gunn confirming that there will be some stories told outside the central DCU narrative, there is every possibility that Keaton’s Batman will make another appearance sometime in the future.

The Flash is released on June 16.
