‘Andor’ Stars Denise Gough, Adria Arjona & Kyle Soller Hint About How Their Characters Change In Upcoming Second Season

Jun 22, 2023

While the premiere “Andor” Season 2 remains just over a year away, it’s safe to say it’s easily the most hyped series in the “Star Wars” Disney+ upcoming lineup. Yup, more so than “Ahsoka” or “The Acolyte,” or more episodes of “The Mandalorian.” And fans already know a little about what they should expect in new episodes of “Andor.” For one, Season 2 runs twelve episodes, with a time jump in the narrative every three episodes.

EW reports that on the latest episode of its “Dagobah Dispatch” podcast, “Andor” stars Adria Arjona, Kyle Soller, and Denise Gough discussed how those time gaps inform each of their characters. For Arjona, she feels like the plays “three different versions of Bix” over the course of Season 2. “Throughout the season, all of our characters evolve because there’s so much time,” said the actress. “There’s a time gap in between every couple of episodes. So this season, for me, is super interesting because I get to grow with Bix. And it continues to happen throughout the entire season. So you get to meet, like, three different versions of Bix.”
It remains to be seen if Bix will fully invest in the rebellion like Diego Luna‘s Cassian Andor. But the old friends feel an even deeper bond now after what happened during the Fennix riot to close out Season 1. Arjona remained coy about what fans should expect from Bix in the new season. “There’s an anger that I hope builds in Bix,” the actress continued. “Whether it’s revenge or whether it’s a closeness with Cassian because he saved her — of course, she has to lean in. She’s always been a part of it, and I think by episode 9 of season 1, it was obvious someone must do something.”
But bear in mind there’s a year gap between the events of “Andor” Season 1 and the upcoming season. That means characters will be in different places when fans catch up with them next. “There’s a year gap … before we even start season 2,” Soller said about Season 2. “So these characters have progressed so much from when we last saw them. And then each character does have about three different versions that they wind up continuing to grow through and towards.” Soller’s Syril Karn will still be after Cassian Andor this season, though. “Syril is on his kind of journey of trying to reach the upper echelons with the Bureau of Standards,” added Soller. “And I’m trying to see whatever happens from that little moment covered at the end of season 1.”
Soller references Syril saving Gough’s Dedra Meero during the Fennix riot last season, and Gough hinted that the aftermath puts her character in an uncomfortable position. “The repercussions of what happened at the riot, she’s going to have to figure out what happens to her after that,” said the actress. “Because you see her at her weakest at the end of … Season 1.” Gough also said that Dedra is “still on her journey of wanting the world to be far more ordered than it is.”
For Gough, she finds certain fan’s fascination with her character a little “unnerving.” “There’s a lot of middle-aged men who like Dedra,” she continued. “I’ll leave it at that. And I get a lot of women sending me footage of themselves dressed as Dedra walking in and out of rooms and drinking coffee, which I find inspiring. And unnerving.” Some fans are so obsessed with the character they send Gough cosplay videos, which the actress can’t help but quibble about. “The Dedra in me wants to point out that the costume is not the right color, and it really bothers me,” she joked. “It’s not stone! They wear white costumes!”
“Andor” Season 2 continues filming now despite the WGA writers’ strike, although Tony Gilroy isn’t at production in alliance with fellow writers. Season 2 of the hit series will premiere in August 2024.
