Anthony Mackie Drives Through A Violent Post-Apocalypse In Peacock’s New Comedy Series
Jul 10, 2023
For years, the idea of films and TV shows based on video game franchises was ridiculous, as almost every single one of them was terrible. However, in the 2020s, that has changed. Films like “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Uncharted” have been massive hits. And recently, on TV, we’ve seen “The Last of Us” become one of the most acclaimed series of 2023. Will Peacock’s “Twisted Metal” follow suit this month? We shall see.

As seen in the trailer for “Twisted Metal,” it appears the new TV series is a completely different beast than the aforementioned adaptations. This is a raunchy, violent comedy series about a driver in a post-apocalyptic time who is asked to deliver a package across the country. As he drives through the various crime-riddled territories, he meets some colorful, deadly characters. Oh, and if you’re a fan of the video game franchise this is based on, you are well aware there will be plenty of car-based violence.
The series stars Anthony Mackie alongside Stephanie Beatriz, Thomas Haden Church, Will Arnett, Joe Seanoa, Neve Campbell, Richard Cabral, Mike Mitchell, Tahj Vaughans, and Lou Beatty Jr. “Twisted Metal” is executive produced by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (both of “Deadpool” and “Zombieland” fame) and showrun/written by Michael Jonathan Smith, who previously worked on “Cobra Kai.”
“Twisted Metal” debuts on Peacock on July 27. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
TWISTED METAL, a half-hour live-action TV series based on the classic PlayStation game series, is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick and written by Michael Jonathan Smith, about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a badass axe-wielding car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
