Marta Milans Relays Emotional Reaction to Reading Script for Shazam! Fury of the Gods
Jul 26, 2023
Marta Milans has returned to DC as Rosa Vásquez in Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Milans first appeared as Rosa in Shazam!, a 2019 film that introduced viewers to the comedic and action-packed exploits of the superhero Shazam (aka Captain Marvel).
Rosa Vásquez is the foster mother of Billy Batson and the Shazam Family. Billy and the other foster children are cared for by Rosa and her spouse, Victor. Rosa is an endearing and relatable character thanks to Milans’ warmth and authenticity in the part. Fans anticipate seeing more of Rosa’s relationship with Billy and the other foster children in the sequel, Shazam! Fury of the Gods which is currently playing in theaters now.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Milans relayed her emotional reaction to reading the script for Shazam! Fury of the Gods:
“I burst into tears when I read the scene on the rooftop when she finally hears her son call her mom. “I love you, mom,” which is just so beautiful. And I called Henry, our writer, and I thanked him because if you really think about it, the reason I think behind the success of the first Shazam into the second one is the heart behind the family unit. And she represents all of that.”
Audiences and critics equally praised Milans’ performance as Rosa in the first film, with many praising her chemistry with the young actors who portrayed the foster siblings. Her return in the sequel undoubtedly adds even more heart and humor to the already adored franchise.
Overall, Marta Milans’ portrayal of Rosa Vásquez in the Shazam! films demonstrate her acting ability. She adds depth and nuance to a character who could easily have been a one-note stereotype, and her on-screen chemistry with the other performers is a delight to watch.
