Relive All the No-Mercy Magic on DVD This September

Aug 25, 2023

Summary

Cobra Kai season five will be available on DVD starting September 12, including all 10 episodes, a blooper reel, and unseen scenes. The show’s creators have announced that season six will be the final season, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to expand The Karate Kid universe. The final season promises to be action-packed, with new characters and unresolved storylines, but fans will have to wait due to ongoing strikes.

Return to the crane-kicking world of The Karate Kid this September. Netflix’s enormously popular sequel spin-off Cobra Kai is coming off its best season since the streaming series first premiered on YouTube back in 2018. And fans can own a piece of the critically acclaimed Miyagiverse next month. Season five of Cobra Kai is coming to DVD on Tuesday, September 12. The physical set will include all 10 episodes, a blooper reel, and, of course, never-before-seen extended and deleted scenes. Fans can pre-order Cobra Kai now. Target is offering the DVD package for only $19.99 plus tax, while it’ll cost customers $30.99 through Wal-Mart.

The end of the Cobra Kai journey was announced back in January, and the sixth season will mark the end of The Karate Kid-based streaming series. In a statement released by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg, the three creators and showrunners addressed the conclusion of Cobra Kai following season six.

Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg said in a statement, courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter:

“Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So, it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai.”

The grown-up Karate Kid Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), along with his friends and students, finally defeated Terry Silver’s (Thomas Ian Griffith) reign of terror on Cobra Kai at the conclusion of season five. And while the show will hang up its gis after season six, the series’ creators couldn’t be more proud of the work done to expand The Karate Kid mythology on streaming.

Heald, Hurwitz and Schlossberg said in the same statement:

“Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.”

As Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) so eloquently says, the final season of Cobra Kai could be the most “badass” yet. Kreese (Martin Kove) escaped after faking his death in the final scene of episode 10, and Silver has been arrested. The Karate Kid Part III’s freakishly powerful Mike Barnes (Sean Kanan) officially joined the cast, and Chozen’s (Yuji Okumoto) love for Kumiko (Tamlyn Tomita) was finally revealed to both Johnny and Daniel.

The cast and crew had just assembled for a table read before the Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike began. And now, with the ongoing Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) protest, fans of Cobra Kai will have to wait indefinitely to see the final episodes of the series.

Cobra Kai arrives on DVD September 12. And for those who can’t wait, all five seasons are currently available to stream on Netflix. Check out footage from the season six table read below:
