Netflix Prepares to Scare Up Audiences With New Poster

Sep 15, 2023

Summary

Netflix’s highly anticipated series, The Fall of the House of Usher, is set to bring Edgar Allan Poe’s 19th-century short story to life with a modern twist. Director Mike Flanagan, known for his dark works, will helm the series, which boasts a talented cast including Bruce Greenwood, Mark Hamill, and Kate Siegel. The show promises to be a wild and gothic ride, with extreme visuals and chaotic evil, according to cast member Kate Siegel.

Shall the house of Usher split in two — sink into that ponderous lake beneath the blood-red moon? The highly anticipated Netflix series, The Fall of the House of Usher, is close at hand. Adapted from the 19th century short story by Edgar Allan Poe, the story of Roderick Usher and the Lady Madeline gets a 21st century facelift in a brand-new poster celebrating the coming storm. Check out the one-sheet below along with the “Nevermore” poster featuring a masked Carla Gugino.

The new poster reveals many of the series’ main players, and Bruce Greenwood’s Roderick Usher can be seen sitting to the far right amidst the characters populating Netflix’s version of Poe’s world. Within the frame of the blood-stained portrait also stands to the far-left side Henry Thomas’ Frederick Usher. And the madness is all brought together by director Mike Flanagan.

Flanagan’s darker works as presented in the likes of Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep and The Haunting of Hill House will surely inform his directing techniques in The Fall of the House of Usher. And the leader of the new Netflix series has a wealth of talent to work with, as the series is also set to star Mark Hamill, Zach Gilford, Mary McDonnell, Carl Lumbly, Kate Siegel, and more. Flanagan has of course worked with Netflix with aims to bring the terror multiple times over the last few years, crafting such shows as The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Midnight Club.

As mentioned, Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher horror series also stars Kate Siegel as Camille L’Espanaye. The actress refers to the streaming show as one born out of the famous Italian Giallo genre. And during an interview with Smallville’s own Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum, Siegel described the show as “bombastic as f—.” During the same sit-down, via a video chat, on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Siegel elaborated by saying:

“It’s a type of filmmaking that’s like Suspiria. So, it’s like extreme lights and sets and people — it’s Poe. It’s like gothic, crazy, insanity. It’s chaotic evil. And can’t hold back. There’s none of that Midnight Mass, grounded realism, seven-minute monologue thing. It’s just like buckets of blood.”

The Fall of the House of Usher’s Carla Gugino, much like Siegel, had a similar way of describing the upcoming horror series. Gugino said via Netflix Tudum:

“It’s bat— crazy in the best possible way. It has quite a lot of very dark humor, but also really touches the soul.”

The Fall of the House of Usher will be available to stream on Netflix starting Thursday, October 12, which is just in time for fans who love to celebrate Friday the 13th and Halloween. You can check out images from the series at Tudum, and fans can whet their appetites with an ever-so-brief teaser on The Fall of the House of Usher’s Netflix page.
