The Flash Director Andy Muschietti Will Direct Batman Reboot the Brave and the Bold
Oct 4, 2023
After several weeks of rumors, The Flash director Andy Muschietti will direct the DCU Batman reboot, The Brave and the Bold, with the filmmaker being chosen by DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn for the job. The hiring of Muschietti has been confirmed via Variety, with Gunn and his fellow DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran releasing a joint statement in which they heap praise on the director and his affinity for bringing the world of DC to life.
“We saw ‘The Flash’; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan. It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for ‘The Brave and the Bold,’ there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes. Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU.”
It was previously reported that a deal would not be struck between Muschietti and DC Studios until the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike had come to an end, but clearly this was not the case, with The Flash director now on board to helm the Batman and Robin outing for Gunn and Safran’s recalibrated DCU.
The Brave and the Bold will come as part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which will begin with the Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, in 2025. The rest of the chapter will include the likes of The Authority, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a Swamp Thing movie, and much more.

What Is The Brave and the Bold About?
DC Comics
James Gunn has since revealed that The Brave and the Bold will be based on the acclaimed run by writer Grant Morrison, with Gunn revealing that Morrison will be “exceptionally influential” on the DCU as a whole. “This is the introduction of the DCU’s Batman…” Gunn said regarding the direction of the Batman project. “This is the story of Damian Wayne, who is Batman’s actual son who we didn’t know existed for the first eight to 10 years of his life. He was raised as a little murderer and assassin. He’s a little son of a bitch. He’s my favorite Robin. It’s based on the Grant Morrison comic book’s run, which is one of my favorite Batman runs, and we are putting that all together right now.”
Before bringing his directorial eye to a solo Batman outing in The Brave and the Bold, Andy Muschietti will first unleash the DC multiverse in The Flash. Worlds will collide in The Flash when the superhero uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past. However, when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, he becomes trapped in an alternate reality.
The Flash should give audiences some idea of what The Brave and the Bold will look like under the direction of Muschietti, with the DC outing dealing with not one, but two versions of The Dark Knight. Led by Ezra Miller as Barry Allen aka The Flash, the story will include both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as alternate versions of Batman, alongside Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, and Kiersey Clemons.
The Flash is scheduled to land in theaters from today.
