Every Horror Movie Coming to Tubi in December 2023

Nov 23, 2023

As cheerful as wintertime tends to be, you won’t find much to be holly jolly about when it comes to Tubi. In fact, you may find yourself feeling a familiar chill running down your spine when you see the plethora of horror films coming to this free streamer in December. Though the holiday season will bring cheerful shows and movies to Tubi this December, there will be an equal number of terrifying flicks guaranteed to make your skin crawl.

We’ve highlighted a number of notable horror films coming to Tubi throughout December. Everything from renowned franchises to indie gems can be found on the service in the coming days, with each one premiering on December 1 unless stated otherwise.

Final Destination Franchise (2000 – 2011)
Streaming on Tubi on December 1
Final Destination Release Date March 17, 2000 Director James Wong Cast Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Kristen Cloke, Daniel Roebuck, Roger Guenveur Smith Rating R Runtime 98 Main Genre Horror
Final Destination is arguably one of the most uniquely unsettling horror franchises of the 2000s. Though every film is mainly self-contained, each one follows a similar formula. We’re shown a group of friends that somehow cheat death after one of them experiences a terrifying premonition, leading to them being picked off one by one in a series of grisly accidents afterward. These friends aren’t facing off against a masked killer or an alien invasion. Instead, they’re fighting off the wrath of Death itself. Tony Todd is attached to the series as the mysterious William Bludworth, with each film featuring stellar performances by actors like Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Devon Sawa, and Ali Larter.

Why Final Destination Is Still Relevant With Audiences
Final Destination’s unique setup still gives people the chills more than two decades after it originally hit the scene. Infamous moments like Final Destination 2’s gruesome Route 23 scene have a way of sticking out in your imagination due to their basis in reality. Though these films weren’t popular with critics, each one would have some pretty impressive box office returns, in addition to frequently earning nominations at the annual Saturn Awards.

Doctor Sleep (2019)
Streaming on Tubi on December 1
Doctor Sleep Release Date October 30, 2019 Director Mike Flanagan Cast Rebecca Ferguson, Ewan McGregor, Zahn McClarnon, Chelsea Talmadge, Carl Lumbly, Alexandra Essoe Rating R Genres Horror, Thriller
After binging through Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher, you may be tempted to return to one of his best films. Doctor Sleep, an official continuation of The Shining, sees Ewan McGregor playing a fully-grown Dan Torrance, a man with psychic abilities whose traumatic past turned him to the bottle. But, the introduction of Abra (Kyliegh Curran), a teenager with an otherworldly gift of her own, may throw Dan back into the horrifying world he escaped once before. Rebecca Ferguson, Cliff Curtis, and Zahn McClarnon make up Doctor Sleep’s supporting cast.

Doctor Sleep Is a Legacy Horror Sequel Done Right
Flanagan’s direction and appreciation for Stephen King’s original works make Doctor Sleep a truly underappreciated legacy sequel. Doctor Sleep would receive numerous nominations at the Saturn Awards, with Kyliegh Curran securing a win for Best Performance by a Younger Actor. A returning Dick Hallorann, now played by Carl Lumbly, also recaptures some of the magic from the original Shining film.

Slither (2006)
Streaming on Tubi on December 1
Slither Release Date March 31, 2006 Director James Gunn Cast Don Thompson, Nathan Fillion, Gregg Henry, Xantha Radley, Elizabeth Banks, Tania Saulnier Rating R Genres Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi
Slither is one of James Gunn’s few forays into the horror genre, bringing his dark sense of humor to a spine-tingling premise. The small town of Wheelsy, South Carolina, finds itself in the middle of an alien invasion when a slug-like parasite arrives via a meteorite. Sooner or later, the residents of the town begin to face off against the alien menace, with gross practical effects and morbid jokes galore. The film stars Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, Gregg Henry, and Michael Rooker, with Jenna Fischer, Ben Cotton, and even Rob Zombie appearing in either supporting or cameo roles.

Slither Is an Excellent Blend of Horror and Comedy
Slither is a delightfully underrated horror comedy that pays tribute to its numerous influences from the 1980s. While it may not take itself that seriously, Gunn’s signature humor is out in full force here, garnering a number of award nominations from the horror magazine Fangoria in the year of its release.

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Streaming on Tubi on December 1
Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday Release Date August 13, 1993 Director Adam Marcus Cast Kane Hodder, John D. LeMay, Kari Keegan, Steven Williams, Steven Culp, Erin Gray Rating R Genres Horror, Fantasy, Thriller
Is Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday the best Friday the 13th film? Not by a long shot. However, that’s not to say that it doesn’t have its own positive qualities. Directed by Adam Marcus, this penultimate entry in the Friday the 13th franchise takes the idea of Jason Voorhees and flips it on its head.

After being blown to smithereens by the FBI, Jason returns once more as a supernatural monster, now with the ability to regain his former body if he possesses a blood relative. Meanwhile, Steven Freeman (John D. LeMay) and Jessica Kimble (Kari Keegan) are tasked with putting a stop to Voorhees’ rampage once and for all. Kane Hodder returns to portray the human form of Jason, with Steven Williams, Leslie Jordan, and Richard Gant providing supporting roles.

Jason Goes to Hell Has Excellent Practical Effects
Despite some eccentricities, Jason Goes to Hell does have some pretty stellar qualities. It’s arguably the most cinematic entry in the Friday the 13th franchise, and the quality of its practical effects hearkens back to the early work of Tom Savini. Its ties to other horror franchises, including some explicit connections to Evil Dead and Nightmare on Elm Street, will surely put a smile on any horror fan’s face.

Cabin Fever (2003)
Streaming on Tubi on December 1
Lionsgate

Eli Roth’s directorial debut, Cabin Fever, may very well be one of his most entertaining films overall. Blending the isolation of a remote cabin with a violent outbreak, Cabin Fever sees a group of college students going on a vacation that turns into a horrible nightmare. After a flesh-eating virus starts to take hold of the students, a series of unfortunate accidents kicks off a perturbing fight for survival in the middle of the American wilderness. Rider Strong, Jordan Ladd, James DeBello, Cerina Vincent, and Joey Kern make up our main cast, with Eli Roth himself appearing in a supporting role.

Cabin Fever Is a Great Horror Debut for Eli Roth
Cabin Fever is a thoroughly entertaining horror debut that saw praise from both Peter Jackson and Quentin Tarantino, not only for its horror elements but for its unconventional tone as well. The film would serve as a precursor to Roth’s future films, which would expand upon elements introduced in Cabin Fever tenfold.

Of course, this is just a smattering of the dozens of upcoming horror titles coming to Tubi. Plenty of other recognizable franchises and independent projects will be coming to Tubi throughout December, along with the typical holiday-themed offerings we’ve come to expect for this time of year.
