James Gunn has revealed more details about his upcoming Superman reboot, including information about a specific scene. The DCU movie formerly known as Superman: Legacy is now filming, with Gunn revealing to the Norwegian Media outlet Svalbardposten that they have now filmed the first scenes from the Superman movie, which finds David Corenswet’s Man of Steel fleeing to his “ice fortress.”
“We have filmed the first scenes, which are when Superman flees to the ice fortress. We wanted a place that was beautiful and felt like being in the middle of the Arctic, so we looked at several places in the world. But there were many things that sold Svalbard for us over the other places. First, there is the natural beauty. But also the fact that you’ll find a varied landscape here that you won’t find anywhere else.”
A set photo from the sequence has also now been released (via VG), and shows the snowy landscape that Gunn is talking about. All of which likely confirms that Superman will once again have his iconic Fortress of Solitude to escape to when things get tough, or when he simply needs some peace and quiet while carrying out his superhero duties. A home base for Superman, canonically, the Fortress of Solitude is often located one of the poles and has been depicted on screen several times before in the likes of Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie, the TV show Smallville, and Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

According to the report, production was shooting at this location for around a week, with onlookers attempting to take photos. Something which Gunn says he didn’t mind at all.
“We have had some people who have stood and watched. But that’s perfectly fine because being interested in just watching is something completely different than when you have people trying to sneak onto the set to take pictures that they can sell.”
The Superman Reboot Stars David Corenswet as the DC Icon
James Gunn’s Superman reboot will be the first movie in his and Peter Safran’s DCU and will tell “the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas,” according to the official synopsis. “He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman is all set to be led by Hollywood star David Corenswet as Clark Kent, aka Superman alongside The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The movie will introduce several familiar DC characters alongside the Man of the Steel and the intrepid reporter, including Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, aka Green Lantern, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Wendell Pierce as Perry White.
