Ron Perlman Addresses Potentially Joining the MCU or DCU

Jan 13, 2023

Actor Ron Perlman has already made one comic book movie, but would he want to be part of the MCU or DCU?

FX

Ron Perlman has already dipped his toes in the world of comic book movies with Hellboy and its sequel. However, the iconic actor has not yet joined the ranks of those to have appeared in a Marvel or DCU movie, but his is certainly not ruling out the possibility of it happening in future. Although there is nothing on the table at the moment, Perlman told Screen Rant that he has been surprised by some of the things that have happened to him in the last decade and a half, and would “embrace” anything else that comes his way. He said:

“It’s kind of the same answer I just gave when it comes to season 3 of The Capture. I never expected anybody to come to me to play a superhero in a comic book, potential franchise. So, the fact that I got to do it, and then there was a second film on top of that, was heavy stuff. But no, I don’t think of myself in those terms. I will say that there are things that have been happening to me in my career in the last 10-15 years that I didn’t dream possible, so I embrace anything that comes. If it’s something in those worlds, then I hope that it’s something that’s multi-dimensional. The reason why I stay a lot in indie film and this type of television, like The Capture, is because the world is so multi-dimensional, and so impossible to categorize, because it’s just too layered, or too filled with many different facets, you know, good is bad and right is wrong, and there’s a lot of gray areas. I like working in that milieu, and sometimes comic book movies give you that, and sometimes they don’t. So, that’s my answer to your question, and if it’s not, I’m sorry, but that’s how I think of these things.”

Will Rob Perlman Play Hellboy Again?

Sony Pictures Releasing

Although Ron Perlman is clearly up for appearing in a DCU or MCU movie, and let’s face it there is no shortage of roles coming up in future, there are many fans that would still like to see him playing Hellboy one more time. Even at the age of 71, it seems that the actor is still feels like there is unfinished business there. He commented:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 f–king years old. [But] we owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this f–king thing done.”

Even if Hellboy doesn’t return, Perlman could have a pick of characters from Marvel’s X-Men, or some of the other new superheroes and villains that are heading to screen in the coming years. Similarly, with the DCU now under new management and looking to kick-start a new set of stories in their universe, it can surely only be a matter of time until Perlman takes his place in one or both franchises.
