‘The Midnight Club,’ ‘Werewolf By Night,’ ‘The White Lotus’ & More

Jan 18, 2023

Unsurprisingly, the October TV lineup is filled with horror series and adaptations of famous monsters, vampires, and corrupted men. Vampires, in particular, are having a big month, with updates to “Interview With The Vampire” and “Let the Right One In,” both getting the serialized television treatment following their pre-existing film adaptations. Elsewhere, Mike Flannagan makes his near-annual return to Netflix while Guillermo del Toro presents stories from some of cinema’s greatest talents.

For lighter fare, there’s plenty to catch up on, including a new series that tells the story of the musical duo Tegan and Sara and the return of the cult-favorite series “Documentary Now!” An oddly paced month that feels lighter in new releases compared to the rest of the year, it’s a good time to catch up on what you’ve fallen behind on while keeping up with ongoing series as well, such as “The Rings of Power,” “Andor,” and more.
“Interview with the Vampire”Created by Rolin Jones (“Boardwalk Empire,”) Anne Rice’s seminal work is once again updated and adapted, this time for television. “Interview with the Vampire” takes small liberties with the story of Louis and Lestat, here played by Jacob Anderson (“Game of Thrones”) and Sam Reid (“Lambs of God”). Following Louis, Lestat, and Claudia (Bailey Bass), the series is told through segments of Louis’ interview given to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian), picking up on a conversation they’d started decades prior. The gothic horror series deals with the perils of immortality, the companionship between Louis and Lestat and their often toxic tether, and more, with a second season already having been announced. Premiere Date: Season one premieres October 2 on AMC and AMC+.
“A Friend of the Family”Based on true events, Jake Lacy plays Robert Berchtold, a close friend of the Broberg family who kidnaps Jan Broberg multiple times over the years during the 1970s. “Never Rarely Sometimes Always” filmmaker Eliza Hittman serves as one of the producers of the series, which is led by Nick Antosca (“Brand New Cherry Flavor”). Anna Paquin, Mckenna Grace, and Colin Hanks also star in the new series for Peacock. Premiere Date: The series premieres October 6 on Peacock.
“The Midnight Club”Following the success of series such as “Midnight Mass” and “The Haunting of Hill House,” writer and showrunner Mike Flannagan returns with his latest horror entry, “The Midnight Club.” The series follows terminally ill members of the ‘Midnight Club’ who meet each night to tell one another scary stories while looking for signs and clues of the supernatural. Created by Flanngan alongside Leah Fong and adapted from the 1994 novel of the same name, the series stars Iman Benson, Adia, Igby Rigney, Ruth Codd, Aya Furukawa, Annarah Shephard, William Chris Sumpter, and Sauriyan Sapkota as the patients. Premiere Date: The series premieres on October 7 on Netflix.
