‘The Office’ Reboot Starring Domhnall Gleeson Has Officially Been Ordered At Peacock

May 8, 2024

After years of teasing, it’s finally happening– “The Office” is returning. But fans of the original series should have tempered expectations. This isn’t “The Office” you have grown to love over the years. This isn’t about Dunder Mifflin, Jim and Pam, Dwight’s antics, or even Stanley’s crosswords. This is a new ‘Office.’

According to THR, “The Office” creator Greg Daniels and writer-producer Michael Koman are teaming up to bring a new generation of “The Office” to life, and Peacock has ordered it to series. The new series trades the paper company setting for a daily newspaper, which should provide plenty of interesting hijinks. And leading the cast are Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore.
“It’s been more than 10 years since the final episode of ‘The Office’ aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” said Lisa Katz, president of NBCUniversal Entertainment. “In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

Here’s the official synopsis for the new series:
The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters
It’s interesting to see this version of “The Office” happen before a revival of the original series. Fans might enjoy this rebooted take, but what would really get people excited is to see a return for some of the original characters. Now, it seems as if that’s definitely not going to happen, even if it was unlikely to begin with.
We don’t know when “The Office” will make its debut on Peacock, but clearly, this is a franchise the streaming service wants to reignite sooner than later.
