Where the Cast Is Today

Jan 19, 2023

Whether you’re an OG fan of The Kids in the Hall, or you learned to love the comedy troupe through Comedy Central reruns in the late ’90s, it’s safe to say that the show was a unique exercise in sketch comedy and imaginations running wild. So naturally, after The Kids in the Hall ran its course, you may have found yourself wondering what kind of shenanigans the cast is getting into in the present day. While there have been reunions, and the cast has seemingly been on good terms with one another throughout their lives after The Kids in the Hall, they’ve also had their own careers that are full of the quirky delivery that you have learned to know and love throughout the show’s tenure.

Dave Foley

Broadway Video Enterprises

After The Kids in the Hall’s original run, Dave Foley has certainly kept busy. His prolific run started immediately after leaving his alma mater when he portrayed protagonist Dave Nelson in News Radio alongside the legendary Phil Hartman, Joe Rogan, Andy Dick, and John Lovitz, to name a few. But it doesn’t stop there. Aside from consistently performing standup, Foley has taken on small roles in Just Shoot Me!, The Tick, Robot Chicken, Will & Grace, Scrubs, How I Met Your Mother, Superstore, and Young Sheldon! His entire filmography is worth a look if you loved his deadpan delivery in Kids in the Hall.

Kevin McDonald

Broadway Video Enterprises

You’re going to see a running theme of the Kids in the Hall alums getting their hands dirty and taking on new roles. Kevin McDonald has not only hosted Mad TV, but has done voice work on Clerks, Cow and Chicken, The Angry Beavers. It’s also suiting that the man from the Into the Doors skit on Kids in the Hall would portray the wannabe hip Pastor Dave in That 70’s Show for a six-episode run. McDonald is still keeping busy doing voice acting; most recently as Dr. Giblets for the video game High on Life.

Mark McKinney

NBCUniversal Syndication Studios

If you’ve been up to speed on your sitcoms, then you’re no stranger to Mark McKinney’s quirky management style in Superstore, which had a whopping 113-episode run. But playing a clueless store manager with a heart of gold isn’t all he’s been up to. In fact, after The Kids in the Hall, McKinney kept doing sketch comedy with the Saturday Night Live cast for 48 episodes, and is uncredited for 21 episodes as a voice actor as well. And it’s clear that the Kids in the Hall alums have kept close after moving on from their original series, because McKinney also had voice features in Clerks like former co-star McDonald. It’s also funny to consider that McKinney, like McDonald, also played a pastor, but in the film A Night at the Roxbury. Wonder if they compared notes when preparing for these roles!

Bruce Mcculloch

Warner Bros. Television Distribution

Bruce Mcculloch has not seen as much screen time as the rest of the Kids in the Hall alums, but he’s been hard at work over the years. As a musician, he released two albums: Shame-Based Man (1995), and Drunk Baby Project (2002). He has also had a hand in directing the music video for My Music at Work by band Tragically Hip. This is not to say that he hasn’t been working in television throughout this time. Mcculloch has had small roles in shows such as Workaholics, Arrested Development, and Gilmore Girls, to name a few.

Scott Thompson

Broadway Video Enterprises

Despite health issues in the form of B-cell non-Hodgkin’s gastric lymphoma, and having his house firebombed by a terrorist group, Scott Thompson has always found a way to keep his sense of humor. His one-man show, The Lowest Show on Earth, turned traumatic events he experienced into comedy gold, but he’s also had quite the run on television in the form of live action and voice acting like the rest of The Kids in the Hall alumni. He even voiced famed stripper Dusty Gozongas in Adult Swim’s Aqua Teen Hunger Force, as well as taking on minor roles in Reno 911!, American Dad!, Odd Squad, and Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! It’s only fitting that the more flamboyant Kids in the Hall star takes part in so many shows that have exclamation points in the title!

As you can see, the comedy didn’t stop with The Kids in the Hall. While the cast has had reunions in the form of Death Comes to Town, they’ve not only been in and out of each other’s lives in great ways, they’ve also had prolific and fulfilling careers of their own outside their alma mater, and if you’re a fan of the offbeat humor that Kids in the Hall was known for, then you have five career paths, and a series revival to follow that will have you on the floor rolling until further notice.
