Peacock’s Modern Dramatic Take On ‘The Fresh Prince’ Returns On February 23

Jan 19, 2023

Of Peacock‘s several reimaginings of old TV series, few hold the intrigue of “Bel-Air,” a contemporary revamp of the ’90s sitcom “The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.” Some critics didn’t take to the show replacing the original’s comedic tone with more serious realism. But others saw the new take on an old favorite as a refreshing homage that could chart new territory.

Now “Bel-Air” returns for its second season, ready to prove it has an identity all its own. The new batch of episodes picks up where Season 1 left off, with Jabari Banks‘ Will trying to rebuild the trust he broke with the Banks family as a new influence comes into his life.
Here’s an official synopsis for ‘Bel-Air’ Season 2, courtesy of Peacock:
Season two of Bel-Air picks up with Will at a crossroads as a new figure comes into his life who challenges what he’s learned in Bel-Air and competes for control of his influence. He juggles this while navigating his home life with the Banks family and trying to rebuild the trust that was broken at the end of last season. We’ll see Will and Carlton’s brotherhood start to evolve as they grow closer, but still challenge each other about their differences. We’ll also see Hilary evolve as she becomes more of a boss in her influencer world and how that spills over into her relationship with Jazz, and also highlight the relatable struggles around Viv and Phil balancing marriage and family while trying to forge their own career paths and reconnect to the things that are important to them.
Along with Banks, “Bel-Air” also stars Adrian Holmes, Cassandra Freeman, Olly Sholotan, Coco Jones, Akira Akbar, Jimmy Akingbola, Jordan L. Jones, and Simone Joy Jones.  Tatyana Ali, who played Ashley Banks in the original “Fresh Prince” series, is a recurring guest star this season.
Carla Banks Waddles returns as showrunner and writer for “Bel-Air” Season 2. Inspired by Morgan Cooper‘s viral trailer from 2019 that reimagined the “Fresh Prince” sitcom for the contemporary moment, Universal expanded the concept into a drama series. Cooper serves as a co-executive producer on the show.
The ten-episode second season of “Bel-Air” premieres on Peacock on February 23, 2023. Watch a trailer for the new season below.
