Born Again Star Reveals the Biggest Change Following Creative Overhaul

Summary
Daredevil: Born Again
on Disney+ will have significant ties to the original Netflix series, much to the delight of long-time fans.
Charlie Cox promises that the new series will honor the beloved practical fight scenes from the original show.
Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, along with other original cast members, are gearing up for an action-packed return in 2025.
The biggest stars of Daredevil: Born Again, Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk/Kingpin) recently revealed the biggest change to Disney+’s rebooted series, following a major creative overhaul last year. Daredevil (originally on Netflix) ended in 2018, and fans have been desperate to see Cox’s iteration of Matt Murdock receive another standalone outing ever since. Spider-Man: No Way Home brought the character into the confines of the MCU, and Cox reprized the role two more times, in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Echo. But after much waiting and anticipation, Daredevil is finally gearing up for another standalone outing, and it may be tied closer to his previous series than fans originally expected.
Speaking to TV Insider at Disney’s Upfronts presentation, Cox and D’Onofrio were asked about the changes made to Daredevil: Born Again’s creative shift in 2023. When asked about the level of crossover between the original Daredevil series, and Disney+’s Born Again, D’Onofrio said, “It originally wasn’t going to be at all, but now it’s a lot.”
Cox then added to his co-star’s comment, saying:
“I think [it’s] the fans. I think [it’s] the studio as well. That’s a really fine balance to strike. If you’re going to remake a show and call it Season 1, and it was a successful show, and it was kind of beloved, then you’ve got to do what people liked. But also you’ve got to have a reason for remaking it. So you have to change it up a bit. And that’s just a really fine balance to find.”
Cox then continued by saying that long-time fans of his portrayal will love the new series. Daredevil’s appearance in She-Hulk was criticized by some fans, due to its use of CGI in the action scenes. One of the original show’s most beloved aspects was its dedication to practical fight scenes, which saw Charlie Cox, and his stunt-double, put through their paces in beautifully choreographed action sequences. Cox continued:
“I think that they’ve done a beautiful job doing that. And hopefully, the old fans – the O.G.s – will love it and also, we’ll maybe pick up a few more fans on the way.”
Charlie Cox Wants to Play Daredevil for 10 More Years
During the presentation, the pair discussed the upcoming first season of the new series, reportedly revealing that the season would be nine episodes long. Cox and D’Onofrio also addressed the stunts in Born Again, with D’Onofrio praising his co-star’s physicality. Cox first joked about donning the re-horned helmet after five years away, saying “it’s a little more snug 10 years later, but I am not complaining.”
The actor then said that his body struggles to keep up with all the physicality, but that he would play Daredevil till the day he dies. Cox continued, “my back and neck are struggling a little bit, but they’ll have to pry it off me at some point.”
Related Charlie Cox Called Vincent D’Onofrio “Delusional” for Thinking Marvel Studios Would Cast Them in Daredevil: Born Again Charlie Cox recalls not believing Daredevil co-star Vincent D’Onofrio about the MCU bringing them back.
D’Onofrio then heaped praise on his co-star for his incredible action work in the series. Not letting Cox fall victim to his British tendency to downplay his own achievements, D’Onofrio said:
“He’s still flying all over the place like an acrobat. He’s incredible.”
Cox and D’Onofrio join many of their former cast mates from the original series for Born Again, including Deborah Ann Woll, Jon Bernthal, Elden Henson, Ayelet Zurer, and Wilson Bethel. The series is slated to release in 2025, and is the second upcoming Disney+/Marvel Studios series, following the release of Agatha All Along this September.
