Fantastic Four’s Joseph Quinn Teases Prep for The Human Torch’s Iconic Line
Jul 9, 2024
Summary
Joseph Quinn cast as Human Torch in MCU’s
Fantastic Four
reboot, and teases the iconic “Flame on!” line.
Despite recent MCU failures,
Fantastic Four
and Phase 6 projects show promise for a brighter future.
Other key cast members include Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
The Fantastic Four are all set to be rebooted for the MCU, and Johnny Storm AKA The Human Torch is set to be played by Stranger Things and A Quiet Place: Day One’s Joseph Quinn. And, not only is the actor taking the role seriously, it seems the MCU will be taking fans’ desire to see some of the IPs more iconic moments and lines seriously, too. In the case of Human Torch, there’s his beloved “Flame on!” line, which was used a few times by Chris Evans in Tim Story’s duology and as a throwaway line by Michael B. Jordan in the much-maligned Josh Trank version.
Quinn sat down with Josh Horowitz on his Happy Sad Confused podcast to dish on his experience with the A Quiet Place prequel. But they managed to touch on Fantastic Four, as well, including just how long the actor has been practicing his take on the catchphrase. In his words:
“One hour, probably, collectively.”
That may not sound like a ton of time, but it’s all for one line. A line of, in total, two words. So, if that’s not enough to make sixty minutes seem like an expenditure, what is?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had more failures than successes as of late. Phase 4 and Phase 5 winners such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and Loki have been sandwiched in-between more divisive efforts such as Secret Invasion, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Eternals, Thor: Love and Thunder, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and the MCU’s first outright bomb, The Marvels. But the future looks bright for the remainder of Phase 5, and thanks to movies like Fantastic Four, Phase 6 looks much the same.
What Else Do We Know About The Fantastic Four?
Speaking of more failure than success, Marvel’s First Family is one of their few A-list properties that has never received a truly faithful cinematic adaptation. But the MCU looks to reverse the trend started by Tim Story’s two movies from the aughts and the dreadful 2015 reboot by Josh Trank. Director Matt Shakman’s 2025 movie is still shrouded in mystery, but one thing we do know is who is playing the central quartet (and a few other primary characters), and the casting couldn’t be any better.
Plot-wise, little is known about the movie, but given some of the announced characters outside the core four, there are hints a Marvel fan can ascertain. For instance, the Silver Surfer will appear, marking the character’s second on-screen appearance after the second Tim Story movie. Inventing Anna and Ozark’s Julia Garner is set to inhabit that cosmic role.
Related Fantastic Four’s Galactus Star Shares His Hope For Villain’s MCU Future After ‘Cool as F*ck’ Debut Ralph Ineson will bring Galactus to the MCU in Fantastic Four next year, but has high hopes for his franchise future.
And, while we’re on the topic of cosmic, The Witch and The First Omen star Ralph Ineson is set to play the planet-eating Galactus. As for who will be standing beside Quinn to take on that villainous duo (assuming that’s how they’re intended to function in the reboot), Pedro Pascal will be Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic, Mission Impossible star Vanessa Kirby will be Sue Storm / Invisible Woman, and The Bear’s Ebon Moss-Bachrach will be clobbering as Ben Grimm / The Thing.
Fantastic Four
is scheduled to hit theaters July 25, 2025. Up next for the MCU is
Deadpool & Wolverine
, which debuts in theaters July 26 and
Agatha All Along
, which begins streaming on Disney+ September 18.
