Legion Star Dan Stevens Returns to TV for Hit AMC Horror Series

Jul 20, 2024

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Legion star Dan Stevens will lead the upcoming season of AMC’s anthology The Terror. Titled The Terror: Devil in Silver, the show draws inspiration from Victor LaValle’s novel, The Devil in Silver, and centers around a man named Pepper, played by Stevens, who is wrongly committed to a psychiatric hospital. While there, he encounters a terrifying creature rumored to be the devil itself, that’s begun preying on the patients. Pepper must band together with other patients to fight this entity while also questioning his own sanity and battling the dismissive staff.

You can read Stevens’ statement about his role in the series, and his excitement over joining The Terror franchise below (via Deadline).

“I’m thrilled to be a part of ‘The Terror: Devil in Silver,’” Stevens said. “This series is a dark symphony of psychological horror and gripping drama, set to rock the audience. Victor LaValle, Christopher Cantwell, and this incredible team have crafted a unique and twisted dance of devils and shadows. I look forward to delivering something epic that will echo through the halls like an iron bell.”

Stevens, who rose to prominence thanks to his performance of Matthew Crawley in the Emmy Award-winning Downton Abbey, recently starred in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire and Abigail, as well as voicing Parakeet in the English version of Studio Ghibli’s 2023 Academy Award-winning The Boy and the Heron. Stevens is also known for his work as David Haller in FX’s Legion and the 2014 thriller The Guest, and voicing Korvo Opposites in the animated series Solar Opposites. Besides The Terror: Devil in Silver, Stevens has a number of projects in the works, including Tilman Singer’s Cuckoo, The Ritual, opposite Al Pacino, and the animated series Among Us (based on the online game).

A New Monster Awaits as The Terror Returns to AMC

The first season of The Terror premiered in 2018, returning for its second season in 2019. Its third season was given the green light just this February. The first season of The Terror reimagines the doomed Franklin expedition searching for the Northwest Passage in 1847. Trapped by ice and dwindling supplies, the crew faces a Tuunbaq, a monster based on Inuit legend, all while struggling with starvation, paranoia, and the threat of mutiny. The season earned critical praise for its blend of historical fiction and horror and strong performances from its cast, which included Jared Harris, Ciarán Hinds, Tobias Menzies, and Paul Ready.

The second season, titled Infamy, focused on World War II’s West Coast, where a Japanese American community in California faces rising suspicion after Pearl Harbor. This time around, the show’s frightful creature was the Bakemono, from Japanese folkore, that haunts them as they’re forced into internment camps.

Zucker for Scott Free Productions, Chris Cantwell, Alexandra Milchan and Scott Lambert for Emjag Productions, Guymon Casady for Entertainment 360, Brooke Kennedy, and Karyn Kusama. Cantwell and author LaValle will adapt the novel for the screen. Kusama, whose directorial credits include Jennifer’s Body and The Invitation and serves as an executive producer for Yellowjackets, will be at the helm for the first two episodes.
