Squid Game Season 2 Teaser Reveals First Look at New Players
Aug 13, 2024
Netflix has dropped a new teaser for Squid Game Season 2, offering a mysterious look at both new and returning players. While the faces and identities of the characters have not yet been revealed, the brief clip features several players’ numbers on the back of their green tracksuits. The brief trailer also shows the return of Lee Jung-jae, who reprises his role as Seong Gi-hun, the sole survivor of the first Squid Game. We get a good look at his face, hinting at his return to the deadly competition. But unlike Season 1, where he was whisked away to a secret island to compete in a series of deadly games, Season 2 will focus on Gi-hun seeking revenge and being a more formidable character. His journey will be filled with new challenges as he attempts to dismantle the organization behind Squid Game.
Other returning cast members include Wi Ha-jun as Hwang Jun-Ho, Lee Byong-Hun as Front Man, and Gong Yoo as the game recruiter. The new cast members are Yim Si-wan, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Kang Ha-neul, and more. You can check out the teaser trailer below.
The official plot of Squid Game Season 2, as per Netflix, reads:
“Three years after winning
Squid Game
, Player 456 remains determined to find the people behind the game and put an end to their vicious sport. Using this fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”
Squid Game Is Already Renewed For A Third & Final Season
When it debuted in 2021, Squid Game broke the internet as well as streaming records and became Netflix’s biggest launch of all time, garnering over 1.65 billion view hours in less than four weeks. The unprecedented global popularity and curiosity around the dystopian Korean drama almost single-handedly introduced a wider international audience to Korean television. While there was a three-year-long wait between Season 1 and Season 2 of Squid Game, that won’t be the case for future installments. Director and writer Hwang Dong-hyuk has already revealed that Season 3 will be out in 2025.

The third season will be the final chapter of the series and will bring a conclusive end to a story that has captivated millions across the globe. In an open letter following the announcement, Hwang Dong-hyuk stated:
“It’s been almost three years since Season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place. I am beyond excited to be writing this letter to announce the date for Season 2 and share the news of Season 3, the final season. On the first day we began shooting Season 2, I remember thinking, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I’m back in the world of Squid Game.’ It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years, as well.”
As the release date for Squid Game Season 2 approaches, the excitement continues to build. The upcoming installment will definitely be a thrilling continuation of the story with higher stakes and more unexpected twists as new players navigate the deadly patterns of the games and Gi-hun orchestrates a master plan of his own.
