X-Men ’97 Creator Beau DeMayo Teases ‘Truth’ About Marvel Firing on OnlyFans

Sep 9, 2024

In the entertainment industry, it’s easy to say that you’ve seen everything, but every so often someone makes a decision that raises a few eyebrows. In Beau DeMayo’s case, the former creator and showrunner of X-Men ’97 has a new tactic to get his side of the story out regarding his exit from the popular animated series. DeMayo, who was fired by Marvel before the series premiered on Disney+, is taking a unique approach to sharing the truth, but you’ll have to subscribe to OnlyFans if you want to hear it.

In a recent post on X, DeMayo wrote, “The only place you’ll hear the whole truth. Thank you for all the love and support,” followed by a link to his OnlyFans page – suggesting that, in order to access DeMayo’s side of the story, you’ll have to pay $9.99 a month. The optics of this are especially interesting considering the allegations leveled against DeMayo regarding why he was fired by Marvel. While OnlyFans isn’t just a hub for adult material, that is primarily what it’s known for, which doesn’t look good when compared to reports that the writer was fired in part for sending inappropriate photos to various members of his staff. When a commenter replied that paying $10 for this access was a bit “wack,” DeMayo responded by saying, “Totally hear you, but there will be a lot of exclusive content coming to this page beyond just this first video. This is just the beginning of a larger project.”

Deadline viewed DeMayo’s content on OnlyFans and offered transcripts from the 30-minute video, in which DeMayo describes the online reports about his firing as part of a coordinated “smear campaign”:

“The rumors being spread around me online are lies, and they are offensive, but more concerning is that they’re a smear campaign designed to discredit my credibility in order to cover up the egregious prejudicial misconduct stretching from select crew members on X-Men ’97, all the way all the way to the top at Marvel Studios.”

DeMayo goes on to say that he was really fired for “being gay, Black and open about it at Marvel Studios,” and that he “no longer felt safe at the studio as a gay Black man.” In addition to explaining why and how he felt marginalized at Marvel, DeMayo says, “I have the receipts and the eyewitnesses so long as you stop coercing them to lie,” suggesting that Marvel or agents acting on Marvel’s behalf are intimidating potential witnesses who can speak on DeMayo’s behalf.

Marvel Was Initially Vague About Beau DeMayo’s Firing

When DeMayo was initially let go, Marvel was pretty hush-hush as to why, but last month the studio was a bit more pointed by releasing a statement that read, “Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.” The statement seemed to be sparked by DeMayo suggesting he was let go due to homophobia after he shared Pride Month fan art of himself as Cyclops in a suggestive costume. Once DeMayo suggested his firing was unjust and discriminatory, more details emerged about the alleged reasons behind his termination, which led to DeMayo’s legal representation getting involved.

Once the allegations of sending lewd photos to staff were made public, DeMayo’s attorney responded to Marvel and Disney’s assertions that he was let go over misconduct allegations. His attorney, Bryan Freedman, blasted Disney for seemingly being a family-friendly brand to the public while planting salacious and defamatory stories about his client that simply weren’t true:

“Having much experience with Disney, the playbook is always the same. Family Friendly on the outside, but secretly attempting to plant illegal unconscionable items in contracts that silence the truth and stop the employee/customer from asserting basic constitutional rights.”

DeMayo was ultimately stripped of his Season 2 credits on X-Men ’97 after his removal due to what Disney described as “his repeated violations of his separation agreement.” DeMayo’s attorney went on to fire back at Disney’s claims by saying, “As we will explain through detailed examples which we will roll out in detail one by one, Disney’s model is very clear and a repetitive illegal pattern. Once it gets challenged or opposed, the gaslighting and redirection of the blame toward anyone willing to tell the truth starts through an international well-oiled publicity machine.”
