Tom Hardy Still Wants a Showdown Between Venom and Spider-Man

Oct 26, 2024

Sony’s Spider-Man Universe is steadily expanding, and Venom star Tom Hardy is keen to shake things up by taking on Marvel’s Spider-Man after Venom: The Last Dance. Even though this shared universe hasn’t been hugely successful, with the Venom franchise being the sole major contributor both critically and commercially, the final installment in the Venom film series may lay the groundwork for future projects.

Venom: The Last Dance, serving as the final film in the trilogy, brings Eddie and Venom on one last adventure together as they are hunted by their respective species. Faced with unforeseen complexity, the duo must make a monumental decision that could bring the curtains down on their journey forever.

While at New York Comic Con on Friday to promote his new film, Tom Hardy took the stage and expressed his strong desire to fight Spider-Man, despite the fact that it was his last film in the Venom saga. He stated:

“I would love to fight Spider-Man. I would love to fight him now. I’m happy to fight Spider-Man today, 100 percent. I would never say never. We were specifically set up to bring Venom to a movie format, and that’s what we’ve done. ‘The Last Dance’ is the final piece in that trilogy, and we’re really excited about that.”

In recent years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has made many fan-yearning clashes and crossovers possible, from Spider-Man vs. Mysterio to Wolverine vs. Sabertooth and even the highly anticipated Deadpool vs. Wolverine. So, Hardy’s desire to face off against the MCU’s Spidey seems more plausible than ever, especially given the number of Spider-Man projects lined up for the future.

How Could Venom and Spider-Man Face Off?

Prior to Spider-Man: No Way Home, it seemed unlikely that Venom would ever cross paths with our friendly neighborhood hero, but the film provided a ray of hope with an engaging post-credit sequence. Although Eddie is transported away after the events of No Way Home, he did leave behind a piece of symbiote that will eventually square up against Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. While the first trailers for Venom: The Last Dance suggest that scene could be completely undone very quickly, we will need to wait and see how that plays out.

Given Tom Hardy’s desire to fight Spider-Man, fans are equally thrilled to see this match-up. In addition, while on the sets of Spider-Man: Homecoming, Tom Holland expressed his interest in battling Venom (via ScreenRant), saying, “I think Venom is someone I’d love to kick the crap out of one day.” If this level of enthusiasm from both actors and fans does not make it possible, we are not sure what will.

Marvel Comics has also seen both these look-alike superheroes battle each other on multiple occasions, from Superior Spider-Man vs. Agent Venom to their unusual alliance when Venom takes a humanoid form without a host to fight Spidey. In any case, as Venom: The Last Dance closes out the trilogy, it could mark a new beginning for Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, with more exciting ventures down the line.

Directed and co-written by Kelly Marcel, who also penned the scripts for both Venom and Venom: Let There Be Carnage, Venom: The Last Dancefeatures Tom Hardy not only in the leading role but also as a co-writer. The film’s cast includes Juno Temple, Stephen Graham, Cristo Fernandez, Peggy Lu, and Alanna Ubach. Venom: The Last Dance is set to hit theaters on October 25, 2024.

Venom 3 is the third and final installment in Sony’s symbiote trilogy starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. It follows the events of Let There Be Carnage, where the anti-hero fought serial killer Cletus Kasady, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Brock was briefly transported to the MCU through the multiverse.Release Date October 25, 2024
