Supergirl Casts 3 Body Problem Star as Ruthye Marye Knoll
Nov 1, 2024
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has cast 3 Body Problem’s Eve Ridley in a major role. While Superman will be the first movie in James Gunn’s new DCU, the next film will be centered on another Kryptonian, Supergirl. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be based on the critically acclaimed comic series of the same name, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely.
Deadline reports that Eve Ridley has been cast as Ruthye Mary Knolle in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. In the comic, Ruthye is a young alien girl who hires Supergirl to hunt down the man who killed her father, Krem of the Yellow Hill. Ruthye Mary Knolle is a noble warrior who travels with Supergirl across the galaxy to enact revenge on Krem, while also seeing the wonders and horrors of the galaxy. Ridley is a relatively unknown child actor, with her most considerable credit being two episodes of the hit Netflix sci-fi series 3 Body Problem.
Ridley is the latest to join the cast of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which also includes Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem. Craig Gillespie, whose credits include the remake of Fright Night, Cruella, and I, Tonya, will direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow with a script by Ana Nogueira. Filming is expected to begin in January 2025, with a release date set for June 26, 2026.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow Rounds Out Its Core Cast
Ridley’s casting in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comes one day after the news that Kelly Macdonald joined the cast of HBO’s Lanterns. It also comes just one day after former Supergirl actress Sasha Calle spoke candidly about how she felt about having her tenure as Supergirl cut short following the box office flop of The Flash and the restructuring of the DCEU into the DCU. Now that Supergirl has its core three characters from the comic storyline, the rest of the cast will begin to fill out soon. It is unclear if Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will try to work in other cosmic DC heroes and villains into its storyline or if it will stick to being a direct adaptation of the original comic.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be an interesting change of pace for the superhero genre. While plenty of films from DC and Marvel draw inspiration from iconic comic book storylines, they do not typically do direct adaptations. The only example of a direct adaptation is 2009’s Watchmen, which was designed as a standalone film. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will adapt a specific storyline while being part of a larger cinematic universe. While James Gunn has clarified these movies will be able to stand on their own like the comics, as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comic is still part of the larger DC canon but requires no prior knowledge, it will be interesting to see if Ridley’s Ruthye Mary Knolle will continue past this one film.
