MCU Wonder Man Series Reveals First Look & Disney+ Release Date

Nov 3, 2024

The first look at the new Disney Plus series Wonder Man has revealed the titular hero, as well as the return of a controversial MCU character from Phase 2. Starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, the new show follows Simon Williams, an actor who auditions for the role of Wonder Man, the leading character in a new superhero movie. But, when Simon develops powers of his own, he becomes Wonder Man in real life. While it feels obvious in hindsight, the first MCU project to focus on actors playing superheroes on screen re-introduces the first actor to appear in the MCU: Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley).

A new Marvel Studios TV featurette has given fans the best look yet at the MCU’s 2025 slate of shows. In the brief shots of Wonder Man, Marvel teases fans with Mateen II’s performance as Simon Williams, and welcomes Trevor Slattery back to the MCU with open arms. Long-time fans will remember Trevor from his infamous role in the divisive Iron Man 3. Originally teased to be The Mandarin (the iconic Iron Man villain), fans had the rug pulled out from beneath them, as it was revealed that Kingsley’s villain was nothing more than an actor paid by Aldrich Kilian (Guy Pearce).

As well as teasing Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery’s unusual partnership, the footage also unveils the official title card for Wonder Man. Taking the minimalist route, the card features the show’s title in a simple, sans-serif font, with bold yellow coloring. Wonder Man was created by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi), and also stars Demetrius Grosse, Lauren Glazier, Byron Bowers, and Manny McCord, alongside the aforementioned Mateen II and Kingsley. Unfortunately, we still have over a year to wait before the show hits Disney+, as Wonder Man is currently slated to be released in December 2025.

Marvel Studios’ 2025 Slate Is Going to Be Stacked

Wonder Man was just a small drop in the large pond that is Marvel Studios’ 2025 TV release slate. As well as the brand-new series, the leaked (now officially released) footage also teased several other live-action and animated shows set to hit the streamer next year. The big reveal was Daredevil: Born Again. The clip features some shots shown to select audiences at past Comic Cons, as well as a brand-new look at Daredevil (Charlie Cox) fighting Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) in his comics accurate blue suit. Fans also got a new look at Jon Bernthal’s triumphant return as The Punisher — who will hopefully also get his own series within the MCU.

Related Deadpool & Wolverine Disney+ Release Date Finally Revealed We now know when Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman’s MCU adventure will land in our homes.

Sticking within the MCU, the footage also shows off some new footage from the long-delayed Ironheart series. Focusing on Riri Williams, who debuted in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the series follows Riri as she becomes the world’s next Iron Man. In animation, the teaser showcased What If…? Season 3, Eyes of Wakanda, Marvel Zombies, and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Like What If…?, Marvel Zombies and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will be set outside the MCU’s Sacred Timeline. However, Eyes of Wakanda will be canon to the wider MCU.
