Loki Season 3 Gets Surprising Update From Marvel Producer at D23 Brazil

Nov 13, 2024

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki remains one of the most complex and beloved characters in the entire MCU, and while it seemed like last year’s second season brought the God of Mischief’s arc to a close, Marvel producer Brad Winderbaum has now offered a surprising update on a possible Loki Season 3. In an interview with CinePOP at this weekend’s D23 Brazil event, Winderbaum offered a cryptic reply when asked if Loki Season 3 is happening…

“There’s always a chance.”

While no official announcement has yet been made regarding a third solo outing for Loki, and with Season 2 seemingly bringing things to a close, the Multiverse Saga is still in full swing, and Loki now plays a central part in holding everything together (literally). So, will the character return for another season? Or could we instead see the character make a comeback in the likes of Avengers: Doomsday or Avengers: Secret Wars? Only time will tell.

No doubt Marvel fans would love to see more from Tom Hiddleston as Loki, with the actor having received acclaim for his portrayal of the villain-turned-hero since his first appearance in Thor way back in 2011. Released on Disney+ this time last year, Loki Season 2 picks up in the aftermath of the shocking Season 1 finale that found the character in a re-written timeline under the threat of variants of He Who Remains. After navigating an ever-expanding and increasingly dangerous multiverse, the final moments of Loki Season 2 sees the character take control of the MCU and all its timelines, essentially becoming a new god of time and holding the branches of time together alone forever.

Should Loki Return to the MCU for Season 3?

There will be many who feel that Loki Season 2 wraps things up for the beloved character so well that it should be left alone. And while Tom Hiddleston, who loves the character, would no doubt return for the right story, the actor did use the final moments of the Disney+ series to reflect on his time in the MCU and the idea of bringing that chapter of his life and career to an end.

“At the very end of episode 6, of season 2, Justin and Aaron turned to me… We were doing Loki walking up the steps, with timelines in his hands and moving toward sitting in the chair and what that would mean. … Justin and Aaron turned to me and said, ‘I think we’re gonna be in here’ – which is the size of the shot – ‘We’re gonna be really close on your face in about 30 minutes. How can we help you with where you need to be there then.’ And I said, ‘It just makes me think of the 15 years I’ve played this character,’ and Aaron said, ‘Why don’t you go away’ – because the energy of the set is very practical – ‘So just go and take a minute, and why don’t you watch some of the scenes from the last 15 years,’ which was a brilliant note.”

Speaking with Screen Rant earlier this year, Hiddleston also explained how he carried “all of those memories” to portray a lonely Loki at the End of Time.

“It was so clever, because it made me think of – for me, personally, me, Tom – it made me reflect on the friendships that I had made in this journey, the people I’d met, the laughter we shared, the lessons that I learned personally. By the time I came back in to shoot the scene, I was carrying all of those memories with me, and it felt very fresh and very resonant. It all came from Justin and Aaron’s suggestion to do that. So that last shot, it’s me thinking of all the people that I’ve shared this journey with, which is who he’s talking about in the end, when he says, ‘For you, for all of us.””
