‘What if…?’ Season 3 Episode Titles Reveal the Multiversal Madnesss That’s in Store on Disney+
Dec 22, 2024
The MCU is just a week away from dropping its third show of 2024 with season 3 of What If…?
. The animated series set in an alternate timeline tells a series of fantastical, character-swapped stories through the eyes of The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright). Seasons 1 and 2 were big hits for Marvel, as they brought back fan favorites like Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) and Ultron (James Spader), and adapted fan favorite comic book story lines like Marvel Zombies. Season 3 is right around the corner, and Marvel Studios have just revealed the new episode titles, teasing what fans can expect.
Episode titles are a lost art in the age of streaming, as audiences binge-watch their way through content, not paying attention to the tiny title card that appears in the top corner. But, What If…?’s episode titles are more than metaphorical and thematic teases; they overtly tell you what each episode is about. The eight episode titles have been revealed, and Season 3 looks absolutely wild. The new season kicks off with “The Hulk Fought the Mech Avengers,” which sees the titular Incredible Hulk face down Gundam-esque, mech-suited Avengers heroes.
Of the new episodes, the wildest one appears to be “1872.” Based on the comic run by Gerry Duggan and Nik Virella, “1872” puts a Western spin on the world of Marvel Comics. Meanwhile, “Howard the Duck Got Hitched?” brings back the MCU’s best character of all-time (take that Iron Man) for a special wedding episode. While most of What If…?’s titles are easily digestible, Season 3’s finale seems paradoxically confusing. What If…? “What If…?” leaves fans with more questions than answers. Check out the full list of episodes below.
‘What If…?’ Season 3 Brings Back Fan Favorite Characters
As well as the unique episode premises, Season 3 of Marvel’s What If…? is bringing back some fan-favorite characters. The first trailer for the new season teased the “1872” episode when it revealed a redesigned Shang-Chi. Voiced by Simu Liu, the new version puts Shang-Chi in the Wild West. Meanwhile, the Avengers are taking inspiration from Voltron, as each member gets their own mech-suit, before combining them together to form one giant mech.

‘Kraven the Hunter’ Star Refutes a Common Assumption About His Spider-Man Villain Role
Despite already playing one Marvel character, Aaron Taylor-Johnson insists that there’s no crossover with his upcoming role in Kraven the Hunter.
Season 3 will provide alternate stories for surviving MCU characters like Vision, Nebula, Ironheart, The Red Guardian, The Winter Soldier, and Peggy Carter. Some popular villains are also re-introduced, like Dormamu from Doctor Strange and The Grandmaster from Thor: Ragnarök. What If…? Season 3 will also see the long-awaited return of Yondu (voiced by Michael Rooker), who died at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. If that wasn’t enough, the X-Men are coming to the MCU, as Season 3 introduces Storm as the new Goddess of Thunder.
Season 3 of What If…? debuts on Disney+ on December 22. A new episode will be released every day up until the 29th of December. The new season kicks off with “The Hulk Fought the Mech Avengers,” and concludes with the ominous “What If…?”
