Seth Rogen Says His New Series Is Inspired By ‘The Fabelmans’ & ‘The Larry Sanders Show’

Dec 23, 2024

While “The Studio” is set to be funny and unique, it’s not what you’d typically expect from a project hailing from the mind of Seth Rogen. Yet, it is exactly that. And its origins might surprise you.

In a new preview of the upcoming series, courtesy of EW, “The Studio,” Seth Rogen talks about how the series came about. For those who haven’t seen the recently released trailer, “The Studio” is a show that follows a character (played by Rogen) as he takes over as the head of a Hollywood studio. While he initially is out to make the best projects possible, he begins to see how things really work in the studio system.

And according to Rogen, he began to work on this idea for a show after acting for Steven Spielberg and watching “The Larry Sanders Show.”

“I was really enamored by how personal Steven made [‘The Fabelmans’],” Rogen explained. “And at the same time, it was kind of during the pandemic and I had just gone back deep into watching ‘The Larry Sanders Show,’ which I hadn’t watched in a long time. And I started to think it would be really fun to do a TV show that is really personal and speaks to my day-to-day experience. So I just started to think, ‘What would be my version of that type of show?’ Something that is really based on my own experiences and my own interests and my own day-to-day life, but hopefully something that has enough broad appeal and interest that the average person who’s not me would like it.”
How will Rogen’s version of the story work out? We’ll have to wait and seen when “The Studio” debuts on Apple TV+ on March 26, 2025.
