‘Suicide Squad’s Scott Eastwood Wants to Play Batman in James Gunn’s DCU

Jan 14, 2025

2016’s Suicide Squad might have been a black mark against the divisive DCEU, but the film has recently found a devout fan base, especially following the release of Zack Snyder’s original version of Justice League. The film starred Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Jay Hernandez, and Karen Fukuhara as the core members of the team, with Jared Leto portraying the controversial version of The Joker, and Viola Davis as the far more terrifying villain Amanda Waller. You’d be forgiven for forgetting Scott Eastwood also starred in Suicide Squad as Lieutenant GQ Edwards, a US Army soldier tasked with overseeing the team with Kinnaman’s Rick Flag. While Eastwood was given little to do in the movie, he wants to make a DC comeback in the biggest way possible.
“I’m definitely a Batman guy,” Eastwood said during a recent conversation with Screen Rant after he was asked about making a potential DC comeback in the future. The actor didn’t reveal whether he’s had any conversations with James Gunn or Warner Bros. since Gunn took over the franchise. However, as Batman is confirmed to be an established part of the DC Universe, Eastwood is throwing his hat (or cowl) in the ring to take on the role. He continued:

“I’m definitely a Batman guy. I think he’s the most interesting character because he is living double lives that are kind of a little bit more intriguing to me than some of the other ones. Yeah, I don’t know. There’s something cool about that character.”

David Ayer’s Suicide Squad was poorly received by critics when it was released in 2016, holding a 26% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Zack Snyder army has recently latched on to Suicide Squad as the latest project they want to see get a director’s cut. Eastwood was asked about the unreleased cut during the conversation, and admitted he has no knowledge of it. “I don’t know if I’ve ever seen his director’s cut. Is it available to watch?” the actor said.
Scott Eastwood Might Have Been Nightwing In the DCEU

While Scott Eastwood’s role in Suicide Squad was reduced to just a few lines, rumors quickly spread online that his character would be expanded to be Dick Grayson in a potential sequel. Grayson is the first Robin under Batman, and eventually leaves the Bat Cave to start his own superhero career as Nightwing (the character with the most famous ass in DC Comics).

Eastwood stars in the upcoming spy thriller, Alarum, alongside Isis Valverde, Sylvester Stallone, Willa Fitzgerald, and Mike Colter. Alarum releases in select theaters and on demand on January 17, 2025.
