Kyle Soller Says Everyone Is “Turning It Up To 11” for Season 2 & Teases “More People, More Planets, More Worlds”

Dec 17, 2022

It would be fun to be a fly on the wall at Lucasfilm as they discuss the performance of “Andor” Season 1. Without a doubt, the “Star Wars” series is the most critically acclaimed show Lucasfilm has released on Disney+. However, it doesn’t appear that viewership is really on par with some of the other “Star Wars” series. Or any of them really. But yet, the studio committed to Season 2 before the first episode of Season 1 even debuted, and one star of the show wants everyone to know that the upcoming episodes are going to be even better.

Speaking to Esquire, “Andor” star, Kyle Soller, talked about getting ready to begin work on Season 2 of the series and what people can expect from the new episodes. Apparently, the episode count isn’t the only thing expanded, as “Andor” Season 2 is going to have a much bigger scope than the first season.
“We’ve been doing rehearsals lately. I mean, they’re turning it up to 11,” teased Soller. “There are more people, more planets, more worlds. There’s an amazing storyline about this new group of people. And I don’t know, man, it’s amazing really to walk onto these massive sets that they’re building.”
We’re not going to get into spoilers about Season 1 here, but if you’re a fan of the series, you can probably already think about the possibilities of what can happen in Season 2. I mean, we already know the format is going to differ quite a bit from Season 1, with the second season being split up into several smaller stories with time jumps in between. We also can suspect that Season 2 will end relatively close to where “Rogue One” begins.

Another nice thing about what Soller says is the tease about massive sets that are being built. One of the very distinct differences between “Andor” and many of the other “Star Wars” TV shows is the reliance on physical effects and real sets. Most of the “Star Wars” content being made now utilizes the Volumes technology, which basically allows for the actors to work in a dome of LED screens that eliminates the need to massive sets and location scouting.
Unfortunately, all of this doesn’t really offer up answers about what Lucasfilm can do to raise interest in the series. Viewership is incredibly low, relatively speaking. Obviously, it’s a popular series, but it doesn’t seem to command nearly the same audience as “Obi-Wan Kenobi” or “The Mandalorian.” And judging by what we saw in Season 1, “Andor” is far from a cheap show to produce. Will Lucasfilm be ok with showrunner Tony Gilroy continuing to do what he is doing, or perhaps we’ll see some more infusion of “traditional Star Wars” content in the episodes?
We won’t get the answer to that question for quite some time, as “Andor” Season 2 is seemingly still a couple of years away, likely arriving towards the end of 2024 or maybe later.
