Smallville Star Wants to Become Green Arrow for the New DCU

Apr 1, 2023

Smallville was one of the first live-action superhero series that became popular enough to build its own universe. The Tom Welling starred show was a hit that ended in 2011 after 10 seasons following the adventures of a young Clark Kent before becoming the Man of Steel.

Besides its own version of Superman, the series included a bunch of other DC characters, from villains to heroes, and even got the chance to show its own Justice League. Kyle Gallner was part of that team, playing Bart Allen or an alternate version of The Flash.

Now, it seems the actor is ready to return to the franchise, but he wants to do it by playing a different character. In this case, Gallner would love to wear the suit of Green Arrow, played by Justin Hartley in the show and most recently by Stephen Amell in the Arrowverse.

Through Twitter, Kyle replied to James Gunn’s tweet about DC casting and gave a lot of good reasons why he should be the one to play the hero, including a video of himself showing off his archery skills:

Will Green Arrow Be a Part of DC’s Future?

DC Comics

Green Arrow has been one of the few iconic absences in the past plan for DC’s Extended Universe, along with Green Lantern. Instead, Zack Snyder focused his story on Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, teaming up later with Cyborg, Aquaman, and The Flash. Of course, the idea was to introduce the rest of the popular heroes in the future, but that won’t happen. At least not the way Snyder planned it.

With a new set of faces ready to come on board and take over the main heroes of the franchise, there’s a big chance we get to finally see a live-action version of Oliver Queen on the big screen. Actually, fans have been looking for the perfect man to play the role.

While many ask for Stephen Amell to return, as they did with Grant Gustin in the middle of Ezra Miller’s scandals, some have other options in mind. For a long time now, Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam has been a fan favorite to become Green Arrow. In recent footage of Zack Snyder’s next film, Rebel Moon, Hunnam appears wearing a cape that made DC fans go crazy because his look was very similar to the character.

But Charlie is not the only one being asked to play the part. After his fabulous performance on Elvis, Austin Butler has become a serious competitor. In a recent interview in the Happy, Sad, Confused Podcast, the actor actually referred to the possibility of joining the superhero world:

“I thought what Robert Pattinson did with Batman was fantastic! There are many elegant, exciting ways of doing that”.

Whether Butler ever joins the sprawling genre of Superhero movies is yet to be seen, though fans can hope to see both Butler and Gallner in the newly formed DCU.
