What the DND Characters’ Stat Blocks Might Be Hinting at for the Film
Apr 3, 2023
The new Dungeons and Dragons film, Honor Among Thieves is on the horizon, and in advance of the release, Wizards of the Coast has released official stat blocks for the principal cast. Available for free on D&D Beyond, these sheets reveal insights regarding each character’s backstories, but more importantly their abilities.
Veterans of the popular TTRPG will be especially tuned in to what these skills and abilities might imply for the upcoming film, as each character features abilities both new and familiar. It’s unlikely that Wizards of the Coast would reveal the entire plot of their feature film, there is definitely some speculation that can be made by analyzing the provided information. Here’s what we think the main characters’ stat blocks might be hinting at for Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

7 Doric
Paramount Pictures
This tiefling druid, played by Sophia Lilis, boasts some very interesting abilities. While some of the features that she employs, such as her owlbear transformation, have been controversial among players, these abilities make for a character that should be very entertaining on-screen.
Notably, she is also credited with a “fiery rebuke” ability that she can trigger three times per day in an upgrade from tieflings’ hellish rebuke feature which requires a long rest to reset. This feature punishes enemies for striking her, and it is likely we will see it in action alongside her druid abilities when the film is released.

6 Edgin Darvis
Paramount Pictures
A dashing bard played by Chris Pine, Edgin Darvis’ stats all center around using his outstanding charisma to disorient enemies and encourage allies, painting him as the leader of his group, despite an aversion to rules and order suggested by his Chaotic Good alignment. Unsurprisingly, he also has access to staple bard spells like suggestion, charm person, and disguise self.
Edgin is also depicted with two weapons, a short sword, and his reinforced lute. According to the sheet, the lute deals expected bludgeoning damage, but also seems to carry a powerful enchantment. This enchantment deals thunder damage, almost twice what the actual impact of the weapon does, in fact. How this little quirk translates to the screen should be a lot of fun to watch.
5 Forge Fitzwilliam
Paramount Pictures
Forge Fitzwilliam, the cunning con artist, is played by Hugh Grant, and his stat sheet credits him with a charisma score of 20, the highest possible for player characters. Aside from this his weapon attacks deal additional poison damage, and he is credited with a “disarming charm” feature that makes him harder to hit thanks to his charisma bonus.
The feature we are most likely to see come into play in the film, however, is his special “double-cross” ability, which deals an automatic critical hit if Forge attacks a friendly target. Considering what we have been shown in promotional material so far, it’s a good bet we’ll see this feature, as well as his poisoned weapons, used against our heroes.

4 Holga Kilgore
Paramount Pictures
Michelle Rodriguez plays the tough as nails barbarian, Holga Kilgore. With an array of classic barbarian abilities, including unarmored defense and reckless attack, it is certain that her action scenes will be immensely entertaining. Improvised weapons further emphasizes her barroom brawl style, described in her bio as wielding “anything from weapons to snacks”.
Her Darksteel ax also grants her specific resistance to lightning damage. A feature like this is too specific not to come into play somewhere in the story, and we can be sure to see Holga using the weapon to defend herself or her allies from some sort of lightning blast on screen.
3 Simon Aumar
Paramount Pictures
The talented Justice Smith plays sorcerer Simon Aumar, a character whose abilities have the potential for both incredible action, and side-splittingly humorous hijinks. As a wild magic sorcerer, Simon’s spells are unpredictable and rely on chance to cast rather than selecting them specifically.
Even his most predicable ability, chaos bolt, involves random chance, and this lack of control over his powers is something that will likely be played for laughs in the movie. It is worth noting as well that he carries a “deathly token,” which is necessary for casting his spells, and this may hint at a darker or more tragic background than what we’ve been shown so far.
2 Sofina
Paramount Pictures
The red wizard Sofina, played by Daisy Head, boasts impressive magical abilities and defenses that are clearly and appropriately meant to be used against a full party of plucky heroes. Many of the spells she can cast, such as Otiluke’s Resilient Sphere and Thunder Wave, make her especially effective at crowd control.
Sofina’s stat block credits her with a challenge rating of 15, which is the same as such classic Dungeons and Dragons foes as an Adult Green Dragon, and the legendary vampire Strahd Von Zarovich. As a major villain of the film, we will certainly get to witness her capabilities leveraged against the heroes to their full and devastating effect.
1 Xenk Yendar
Via Paramount
Rege-Jean Page’s stoic and serious paladin, Xenk Yendar, boasts a somewhat complicated but outrageously effective and flashy set of combat abilities. His daggersword is constantly transforming thanks to his Daggersword Flourish ability, which comes at the end of three attacks. This means that he can possibly eliminate a large group of enemies quickly and with no assistance whatsoever.
His biography also points out his serious personality and the friction that it causes with the more laid back bard of the party, an attitude that is so typical of Lawful Good Paladin characters that Dungeons and Dragons veterans have made it into something of an inside joke, and will even play this characterization completely straight as a sort of parody at their role-playing table.
