Jennifer Lawrence is undeniably one of the biggest movie stars of our time. After her breakthrough with mainstream audiences in 2012 with the first Hunger Games movie, her fame keeps rising. Moreover, the same year, she won an Oscar for the Silver Linings Playbook, solidifying her as a movie star at a very young age. So it does not need to be said that her career and all her choices so far are great!

Now the actress is set to return with her upcoming comedy No Hard Feelings. In this movie, she plays Maddie, a poor woman who, in an effort not to lose her house, answers a Craiglist ad where two overprotective parents ask her to have sex with their 19-year-old son before he goes to college. He is not into it, but she will try anything to get him to bed. Will the only joke of the movie be something like ‘’but why doesn’t he wants to have sex with her? She is so beautiful?’’ Of course, we could be wrong, but if you do not understand the concerns, imagine if the genders were the opposite. But before we pass any judgment, let us watch the trailer first.

Maddie Is in a Desperate Place

We begin with Maddie in a pink dress asking the boy if she can touch his wiener while the music from Can’t Touch This by MC Hammer plays in the background. She meant his wiener pet dog; what did you think she was referring to? Hard cut to the title, and the trailer begins properly. We guess they did not hold their best jokes for the end! We see a man taking her car because of her debts. From their discussion, we understand there is some romantic history between them that did not end well. She tries to seduce him, acting as if she missed him, but another guy comes out of her house wearing only his underwear, and the car is about to be taken. She promises he is her cousin, but the new guy grabs her breasts, so she insists he is her second cousin. The first guy leaves with her car, setting up the drastic situation Lawrence’s character is in.

After the logos of Sony and Columbia, we learn about her financials. They are not doing great, and now she can not even work as an Uber driver since she has no car, so she uses rollerblades. A colleague shows her the ad; two parents want help bringing their son out of his shell in exchange for a new car. Initially, she has her doubts, but another friend tells her that these helicopter parents are so serious about this that they will do it themselves eventually.

The Downhill Never Stops!

The movie shows us the words “This Summer,” and we see the interview between Maddie and the parents. They are worried about their son, who is attending Princeton but is not social. They want her to date him, “date him hard,” to be precise. We can see the awkwardness on Maddie’s face, we feel the same, but then she says that she will ”date his brains out.” We learn that the young man likes to volunteer at the animal shelter, and then we get treated with the wiener joke from the beginning. She offers to take him home in a van, and the guy is clearly uncomfortable. She takes the wrong way acting like it is a shortcut. She is telling him that he is her hostage, the young man tries to open the door while panicking, and she asks him what he has ‘’down there’’ and ‘’if it is something for her.’’

Thankfully the guy pepper sprays her and leaves. She wonders why he did that, and he screams that she tried to kidnap him, but Maddie yells at him to grow up. Spray her again and run, dude! She is nagging that the boy is awkward. They go on dates, but even though he is not old enough to drink alcohol, she orders a drink for him without his knowledge and consent. We cut through various scenes from the film, like Maddie dancing ‘’sexually’’ for the 19-year-old or her talking with her friends on a beach while Super Freaky Girl by Nicki Minaj is playing. Maddie’s concern is that her mother would want her to save the house.

We cut through many more date scenes; they go to an amusement park, an arcade, and on a beach skinny-dipping. The boy does not want to enter the sea, but she screams at him until he does. Charming! Slowly we see that she starts to like him, and we see him growing some confidence, which looks like arrogance. His parents are so proud! How couldn’t they be? He drinks in front of them and later vomits in a toilet at a party, where the boy accidentally punches her. We see the title again, and the two of them are trying to outrun the cops because she will lose her license if she gets caught. She will probably lose her license because the boy is half-naked and grabbed outside the car. The trailer ends with a train almost hitting them. The words “Exclusively In Theaters This Summer” appear on our screens.

Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress, but you may feel you need a shower after this rated-R comedy! No Hard Feelings is set for release later this year on June 23.
