Action Thriller ‘U.S. Marshals’ Finds Success on Free Streaming

Apr 11, 2025

A largely forgotten and severely underrated action thriller led by not one, not two, but three actors from the blockbuster franchise that is the MCU. Led by Captain America: The First Avenger star Tommy Lee Jones

and Blade actor, Deadpool & Wolverine star, and action icon Wesley Snipes

, and with a supporting turn from Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr.

, U.S. Marshals is finding surprise success almost 30 years after it was first released. And it’s all thanks to free streaming.
Directed by Stuart Baird and written by John Pogue, U.S. Marshals is, in fact, a sequel to the acclaimed ’90s Harrison Ford-led action thriller The Fugitive and finds Snipes’ federal agent Mark Roberts wrongfully accused and on the run. U.S. Marshals is now ranked #1 on the Tubi top 10, beating out the likes of Taron Egerton’s Robin Hood reboot, Sylvester Stallone and Antonio Banderas’ Assassins, and Vin Diesel’s xXx to the top spot.

The Best Wesley Snipes Action Movies, Ranked

From Blade to Passenger 57, we’re going over the action movies of Wesley Snipes’ career and determining the best of them all.

Starring several cast members from The Fugitive alongside Jones, including Joe Pantoliano, Daniel Roebuck, and Tom Wood, as well as Kate Nelligan, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Robert Downey Jr., U.S. Marshals is now available to stream for free on Tubi

, and you can check out the official synopsis below.

“An airplane bearing gruff U.S. Marshal Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones) crashes in the wilderness. On board the same flight is Mark Sheridan (Wesley Snipes), a federal prisoner accused of double murder, who escapes during the ensuing chaos, but not before rescuing several people from the wreckage. Gerard is ordered to hunt down the fugitive along with State Department agent John Royce (Robert Downey Jr.), and the two pursue Sheridan relentlessly, despite growing doubts about his guilt.”

‘U.S. Marshals’ Offers a Lot for Action Fans To Enjoy

Warner Bros.

Unlike The Fugitive, which was itself a remake of the 1960s television series of the same name, U.S. Marshals sadly failed to reach the heights of its predecessor. Instead of The Fugitive’s hugely impressive 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the sequel was branded with a “rotten” score of just 30% at the time alongside 53% from audiences on the Popcornmeter. “A rote albeit well-cast action thriller, U.S. Marshals suffers badly in comparison to the beloved blockbuster that preceded it,” the critics’ consensus reads. But, while it may not quite live up to the first outing, there is still a lot to love about U.S. Marshals, which is something audiences are just now finding out thanks to Tubi.
Previously, Joe Pantoliano has expressed interest in returning for another manhunt, revealing that, of all the character’s he’s played in the past, his top choice is that of Deputy U.S. Marshal Cosmo Renfro. “I’d like them to do a Fugitive, U.S. Marshals sequel. Us old guys chasing a new young movie star,” the actor said back in 2020.
As for the MCU, Wesley Snipes recently made his triumphant return as Blade in the multiversal madness that was last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. While it’s not yet known whether he will reprise the role of The Daywalker again (a Blade reboot is supposed to happen any day now), the likes of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, both of which will see Robert Downey Jr. return to the franchise as new character Doctor Doom, would be the perfect opportunity to bring him back.
