Agatha All Along Director Says Marvel Fans Have Missed a Major Teen Clue

Sep 26, 2024

Fans of Agatha All Along might not cut it as real prestige TV detectives as, according to the show’s creator, we’re all missing a big clue about the identity of Teen in the very first episode. The MCU is back in full force with its various mysteries, requiring fans to dive deep into the new Disney+ series and over-analyze every possible detail, frame-by-frame. The first two episodes of Agatha All Along have already posed several enigmas for fans to unravel. What does Rio Vidal’s “Black Heart” mean? Who is the dead witch from the first episode? And who are the Salem Seven? But, the biggest mystery, which will likely be held until the last episode, is the identity of Joe Locke’s “Teen.”

According to Agatha All Along director, Jac Schaeffer (via ComicBook.com), we’ve all been looking in the wrong place to deduce his secret identity. The biggest clue fans believe they have is the squiggled letter M that appears on his lips when he tries to say his name. However, Schaeffer has revealed there are far better clues about Teen tucked away in the very first episode which fans have yet to find. “That’s not the first place I’d look,” she said about the M covering Teen’s lips. The director confirmed that “it’s not entirely irrelevant: But there are other places to look.”

During the conversation, Schaeffer also addressed why the mystery surrounding Teen is so important. She said it isn’t just about keeping audiences guessing, as the mystery also has to serve the other characters in the show and drive plot and character development. Schaeffer explained:

“I don’t like hiding things from the audience, just to then be, like, ‘Boo!’ There’s no artistry to that. So when we talked about obscuring who he is, the first question is, why? What is the utility of that? The answer is, it’s about the effect that his mystery has on Agatha. What does that do to her? How does it motivate her? How does it hit her emotionally?”

Joe Locke’s Teen Fan Theories Explained

Social media is overwhelmed by Agatha All Long fans hotly contesting each other’s fan theories about Teen. The most popular theory, stemming from the M on his lips, is that Teen is actually Mephisto. Marvel fans have developed an obsession with the demonic character over the years and, during WandaVision’s run on Disney+, fans speculated that almost every character could be Mephisto. It was even rumored that Al Pacino would play the beloved character in the show.

Others are speculating that Teen is actually William “Billy” Maximoff, the son of Wanda Maximoff and Vision who appeared in WandaVision. While the character from WandaVision was a magical apparition created by Wanda, when magic is at play anything is possible. Others are theorizing that Teen is the son of Agatha, who was created by Wanda’s hex. Moving away from the family ties-aspect. Some believe that Teen is a separate transgender witch, who has been created for the show. For now, we will simply have to look much closer at the clues put infront of us.
