Alec Baldwin’s Reality Series Gets and Emotional First Trailer, Touching Upon the ‘Rust’ Tragedy
Jan 28, 2025
If you were thinking the upcoming reality TV series The Baldwins, which focuses on Alec Baldwin, his wife Hilaria Baldwin, and their seven children, would be nothing but fun escapism about the trials and tribulations of parenting, think again. In a new trailer for the TLC show, the 2021 accidental shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Alec’s neo-western Rust gets mentioned not even halfway through the one-minute clip (posted below).
“A son lost his mom in the most unthinkable tragedy,” says Hilaria in voice over, as we see an overhead shot of the Rust set in New Mexico, referring to Hutchins’s young son, Andros. “This is never something to forget, and we’re trying to parent through it.”
Alec speaks next, saying over shots of the actor burying his face in his hands, “Honestly, from the bottom of my soul, I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have [Hilaria] and these kids.” There’s also a shot of Alec entering what appears to be a therapist’s office.
That’s all we really get concerning the Rust shooting, but given its prominence in the trailer, it seems likely The Baldwins will continue to deal with the incident. According to a statement from TLC (via Variety), the season premiere features the Baldwins celebrating their eldest son Rafael’s ninth birthday, plus a family trip to East Hampton.
“But in the midst of celebration is uncertainty as Alec faces trial. Alec and Hilaria navigate the emotional complexities of the moment, all while keeping their children’s lives as stable as possible.”
It’s hard to say how much attention will be given to the accidental shooting. But given that Baldwin recently filed a civil suit against the prosecutors and officials who attempted to bring manslaughter charges against the actor, it seems so long as the cameras roll, the incident will continue to come up in the series.
The Baldwins will premiere on TLC on February 23rd, with next day streaming on Max.
The Future of ‘Rust’ is Uncertain at the Moment
While international rights have already been secured, Rust has yet to find a domestic distributor, given the controversial nature of the film. It made its world premiere at the Cameraimage Festival in Poland in November 2024, but hasn’t played at any other festivals, nor has it had any other screenings since then.

Alec Baldwin says the “truth has never been told” in regards to the ‘Rust’ incident.
Olga Solovey, Hutchins’s mother, publicly decried the Camerimage debut, saying it was an attempt to capitalize on her daughter’s death. She and her family, who are represented by attorney Gloria Allred, have a pending lawsuit against Baldwin. A separate suit brought by Hutchins’s husband Matthew was settled out of court, with profits from the film going to Matthew and son Andros. Though, of course, until Rust finds a distributor, no money can be made from the film.
