Apple TV+ Horror Docuseries Sheds Light On One Family’s Terrifying Paranormal Encounter

Sep 26, 2023

Typically, when you see horror films that are “based on a true story” or “inspired by true events,” it’s a very loose interpretation of what that means. That said, there is one event that happened in the U.K. that would go on to inspire various projects, including “The Conjuring 2,” and Apple TV+ is here to shed light on what really happened with “The Enfield Poltergeist.”

As seen in the trailer for “The Enfield Poltergeist,” the docuseries tells the story of what happened in 1977 when a normal family in Enfield, London became haunted. Now, considering this is 1977, there aren’t any videos of the terrifying encounters, but there is audio and it’s some of the most famous audio you’ll find in the paranormal field. So, to make up for this distinct lack of visuals, filmmaker Jerry Rothwell and his crew have painstakingly recreated the events of that time, creating a sort of stage play with very real and horrifying audio.
“The Enfield Poltergeist” arrives on Apple TV+ on October 27, just in time for Halloween. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
In 1977, the terrifying haunting of an everyday family in Enfield, London, dominated headlines across the United Kingdom and had a tremendous impact on an entire generation of children. The mysterious case forever changed ideas about the supernatural and that it wasn’t just restricted to castles and stately homes but could be experienced by anyone, anywhere. The chilling story has inspired fictionalized versions of the case, including the film “The Conjuring 2,” a television series and two stage plays.
