Cherry Blossom Opens Up About the TV Dad Who Guided Her on ‘The Masked Singer’
Mar 27, 2025
Whether it was her time as DJ Tanner on Full House or her stint as a co-host of The View, it’s inevitable Candace Cameron Bure was a part of your life in some capacity. Now, with a focus on “family-centric” holiday films to rival that other holiday film network, Candace Cameron Bure stepped out of her comfort zone to participate on The Masked Singer, a show that has tried to get her on for years! She said, “They asked me four times to do the show, and I said no three times because I’m scared to death of singing in front of people.” She’s not the only Bure family member who’s competed on a singing talent show. Her daughter, Natasha Bure, appeared on The Voice in 2016. Luckily, she had some inspiration to tap into.
As part of Season 13’s Group C, Candace Cameron Bure participated in Carnival Night, where she had the time of her life. She even stumped the panel, though she was shocked that Robin Thicke and Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg were unable to pick up the clues. He was close, though! The former child star speaks about her experience and how the incomparable Bob Saget, her former TV dad, played a part during her journey on The Masked Singer.
This Was Not Her First Time Being Asked To Be on ‘The Masked Singer’
COLLIDER: It was a Full House on The Masked Singer. It’s the artist formerly known as Cherry Blossom. Candace Cameron Bure! How are you?
CANDACE CAMERON BURE: I love that intro. I’m doing great. Thank you.
COLLIDER: I think it’s safe to say, like you said in your clue package, we all grew up with you. For me, Full House was a massive part of my childhood. So it was really fun getting to see you on the show. How hard was it keeping it a secret that you were Cherry Blossom?
CANDACE: The secret was pretty easy. I told my husband and my three kids, and those are the only people I told, but at least my closest circle knew. But I don’t know. I’m a good secret keeper. I feel like every time you’re working on, whether it’s a movie or a TV show, you’re never allowed to talk about things before they air. So it was okay. But I’m so excited now that the season’s on, and I could share it with everyone.
COLLIDER: What inspired you to join The Masked Singer?
CANDACE: Well, they asked me four times to do the show, and I said no three times because I’m scared to death of singing in front of people. I don’t have the greatest voice in the world. And if you’re not really good at something, why do I want to embarrass myself? But the fourth time around, I was like, you know what? I think I need to just say yes and do this. And I’m either going to have a great time, or I’ll just get it over with, and they won’t ask me anymore.
COLLIDER: Did you channel your daughter at all? Because I know she’s a singer.
CANDACE: I did. I was really excited to tell my daughter, and she was one of my biggest cheerleaders. She really helped me. She gave me so much confidence, and she kept saying, “Mom, you can do this.” And when we chose this song, she was like, “Yes, this is perfect. It’s so fun. It’s like a party song, and you can just go out there.” And so I would record myself and practice. I would send it to Natasha, and she would give me feedback, but she was a great cheerleader.
COLLIDER: You had one of my favorite costumes this season. It was so beautiful. What was it like when you got to see Cherry Blossom for the first time?
CANDACE: I loved it. I was so happy I got to be Cherry Blossom. I wish I could have enjoyed it longer, truly. But it was beautiful. Some costumes are a lot bigger and more restrictive. And this one, I felt like if I ever went to the Met Gala, I could have worn it to the Met Gala. It was beautiful dress with all the cherry blossoms. And it was so meticulously designed. The costume designers on there are unbelievable. I had no idea. So I was quite happy. It was so feminine and beautiful and pink, and it just very much felt like me.
Candace Cameron Bure Stumped ‘The Masked Singer’ Panel
COLLIDER: You are an actress. You’re used to performing, but singing on a stage is obviously very different. What did you learn about yourself stepping out of your comfort zone?
CANDACE: Well, I just compliment myself in that I’m brave. I’m brave to do it. I don’t know how much I learned about myself, but I was really pleased with myself that I said yes in the first place because it was so, so scary. And I think maybe if I did learn something, it’s that I probably take certain parts of life a little too seriously. And it doesn’t always have to be serious. You can just go have fun. So I’m trying in those ways to not think about the fear things and just enjoy it and have fun.
COLLIDER: The panel had some good guesses for you. How much fun was it being able to stump them completely?
CANDACE: I know! I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but I liked some of the guesses. I loved Tina Fey as a guess. I thought that was great. But when they revealed the extra bonus clue from Joey Fatone, I really thought that Robin or Jenny was going to get it, or at least… Robin got closer to the genre guessing Tracy Gold. But I don’t know, for some reason, I was pulling for Jenny to get it because she’s also a girl of the ’90s like me, and she knows Full House well. And I was like, “Come on, Jenny, you’ve got this. You got this.” But I stumped them.
COLLIDER: It was very close. I mean, Tracy Gold to Growing Pains. Kirk Cameron to Candice Cameron-Bure. It was right there.
CANDACE: Oh, I know.

Candace Cameron Bure Knows Bob Saget Would Be ‘Super Proud’

COLLIDER: Now, I know you were there to honor your friend Bob Saget, who had been on the show before. I actually got to meet him when he did Hand to God on Broadway. I got to go backstage and meet him. And he’s honestly been one of my idols. So it was one of the best experiences of my entire life.
CAMERON: I love hearing that. He really was the best.
COLLIDER: He was so sweet. He took a photo with me and my mom. It was truly amazing. How special was it to be there to honor him? And how proud do you think he would be of you?
CANDACE: I loved it. I love that I got to follow up as the next Full House cast member after Bob. I was so happy when he was on the show, and I guessed him just not knowing it was him. I knew after the first note I heard him. I was like, “That’s Bob.’ It was so much fun. So I know that he would be super proud. I can imagine him being here and even giving me a pep talk before going on, because he’s the person I would have called. If I could tell anybody else, I would have told Bob, and I’d be like, “Tell me what the deal is.” And he would have been so encouraging. So, yeah, it was really special.
COLLIDER: Now you have a big career, but you always go back and meet the fans who have been a fan of you since Full House. What has it been like continuing to connect with the nostalgia that we all love so much?
CANDACE: I love it. I love it. That’s why we love doing 90sCon. I love doing 90sCon just to get to meet people. I understand it. I’m the same way in that I have shows or singers or things that I grew up with that I just love. And to be able to express that to the artists is really fun. So it’s as genuinely nice for me to meet all of the fans or people that I grew up with me and just connect in some small way because, honestly, I feel the same way back.
COLLIDER: I know you’ve been keeping busy. You just released a children’s book. Congratulations.
CANDACE: Thank you.
CANDACE: Anything else you can tease the fans with? What’s coming up next?
CANDACE: Sure. Yeah. I have a new mystery movie, a new Ainsley McGregor mystery movie, that will be out very soon in the spring on the Great American Family Channel. And I have my podcast. We have another great season that my daughter’s on right now, and Allie Schnacky. You can go back and listen to all of them. But the Candace Cameron Bure Podcast is just one of my favorite things I get to do. Never thought I’d love the podcast world, and I love it.
COLLIDER: Well, congratulations, and thank you so much for chatting. It’s been great getting to talk to you.
CANDACE: Thanks, Michael. Good to talk to you, too.
