Christoph Waltz & Sam Neill Are Evil CEOs Disrupting The World Of Magic Through Corporate Strategies

Mar 15, 2023

What is your boss really capable of? Every employee has asked that question (be it jokingly or with serious intent) at some point, but two interns are about to experience the worst in “The Portable Door.” The adaptation of Tom Holt’s seven-book fantasy series focuses on Paul and Sophie — interns who soon come to realize prominent figures at their firm are disrupting magic. The project hails from “Lambs of God” and “Ali’s Wedding” director Jeffrey Walker with a script by Leon Ford, and there’s definitely a “Harry Potter”-esque vibe to it. Moreover, the film comes from the Jim Henson Company, so they definitely know and understand fantasy.

An accomplished cast brings the story to life. Sam Neill comes off massive box office success in his return as Alan Grant in “Jurassic World: Dominion.” He’s also garnering attention as a new generation discovers Andrzej Zulawski’s masterful horror film “Possession.” Neill is joined by Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz — a welcome addition to any project; the actor recently led Prime Video’s series “The Consultant.” The film also stars Patrick Gibson, Sophie Wilde, Miranda Otto, Chris Pang, Jessica De Gouw, and Rachel House.
The film’s official synopsis:
The movie centers on Paul Carpenter (Gibson) and Sophie Pettingel (Wilde), lowly put-upon interns who begin working at the mysterious London firm J.W. Wells & Co. and become increasingly aware that their employers are anything but conventional. Charismatic villains Humphrey Wells (Waltz), the CEO of the company, and middle manager Dennis Tanner (Neill) are disrupting the world of magic by bringing modern corporate strategy to ancient magical practices, and Paul and Sophie discover the true agenda of the vast corporation.
Magic collides with an increasingly harsh business world in “The Portable Door.” The MGM+ original film debuts on the network on April 8. Watch the newest trailer below.
