Home Streaming MCU’s Echo Series Hit With Big Delay, Agatha: Coven of Chaos Could Also Be Pushed Back

Echo series writer Marion Dayre has confirmed the Disney+ Hawkeye spin-off show will not be arriving in Summer 2023 as originally planned.

Disney Platform Distribution

Marvel Studios have some hugely ambitious plans for the next three years, with dozens of movies and TV shows being intricately linked as part of the Multiverse Saga across Phases 5 and 6. That means delays have a big domino effect with the entire shooting and release slate when they happen. Echo writer Marion Dayre has seemingly confirmed that one such delay has hit the series, and it could also impact the highly anticipated Agatha: Coven of Chaos.

When Marvel Studios first laid out their plans for Phase 5 and 6, it seemed that the Multiverse Saga was set to end with a double-header of Avengers movies. Within around a month of that announcement, the slate was changed and additional unnamed projects have been slotted between Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Similarly, Echo was originally set to make its debut on Disney+ in “Summer 2023”, while Agatha: Coven of Chaos was to arrive in December 2023. Now it looks like Echo will be receiving a huge delay to Winter 2023, meaning Agatha: Coven of Chaos is likely to also be on the movie soon.

Speaking on Ben Blacker’s Writers Panel podcast, as reported in The Cosmic Circus, Dayre commented that the show is not likely to be ready in six months from now. Talking about the show’s release date in relation the podcast’s release, Dayre said:

“That will probably be a year from when this comes out.”

How Will Echo’s Delay Impact the MCU’s story?

It is no secret that the Marvel Cinematic Universe relies of audiences seeing certain movies or TV shows before others. However, Echo’s place in the MCU seems, on the surface, to be mainly as a sequel/spin-off from Hawkeye and potentially a precursor to Daredevil: Born Again which is released in 2024. The series doesn’t seem to have any direct links to the overall multiverse storyline, which will be a bit of a relief for Kevin Feige, but that doesn’t mean the delay will not have an impact on other projects.

Echo sees Alaqua Cox reprise her role as Maya Lopez, the temporary antagonist of Hawkeye, who has direct connections to Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin. The series is expected to feature D’Onofrio as well as Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil. Others confirmed to appear are Zahn McClarnon, Chaske Spencer, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Cody Lightning, and Graham Greene. There have also been rumors that Echo could introduce Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones to the MCU, but that has yet to be confirmed.

When the series was announced, Alaqua Cox spoke about her delight and shock to be getting her own show on the back of Hawkeye. She said at the time:

“It’s just so crazy that I’m getting my own show after Hawkeye. That was like my first acting role, ever. I don’t know why they’re giving me this opportunity, but I’m just grateful. I’m excited for the support and being able to advocate for the Deaf community. We want to have that equality and get more people involved. I’m just so grateful for all of the opportunities I’ve been given.”

Echo will seemingly now not arrive on Disney+ until Winter 2023. There has been no word yet on where this leaves Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
