David Oyelowo Stars In Taylor Sheridan’s Latest Old West Series

Aug 9, 2023

The Taylor Sheridan Westerns factory has a new product coming. However, if you were hoping for more “Yellowstone,” then you’re out of luck (maybe, more on that later). Instead, you’re getting “Lawmen: Bass Reeves.”

As seen in the teaser for “Lawmen: Bass Reeves,” Season one of the new anthology series focuses on the story of legendary hero, Bass Reeves, a man who is said to have captured more than 3,000 criminals without ever being wounded. As mentioned, this is just Season 1 of the series, and future seasons are said to follow various other “lawmen” to life.

The cast for the series includes David Oyelowo, Lauren E. Banks, Demi Singleton, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, Shea Whigham and Garrett Hedlund, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Grantham Coleman, Tosin Morohunfola, Dale Dickey, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Margot Bingham, Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, and Bill Dawes. Though Sheridan and Oyelowo are executive producers, Chad Feehan is the showrunner for the series.
“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” is expected to arrive on Paramount+ sometime this fall. You can watch the teaser below.
Here’s the synopsis:
LAWMEN: BASS REEVES will bring the legendary lawman and outlaws of the Wild West to life. Reeves (Oyelowo), known as the greatest frontier hero in American history, worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded. LAWMEN: BASS REEVES is an anthology series with future iterations that will follow other iconic lawmen and outlaws who have impacted history.
Also, that said, re: “Yellowstone.” One thought. The show has been rumored to crossover and be set within the timeframe of the “Yellowstone” spin-off “1883,” which has now ended and was a one-off series. So who knows, maybe we could see one of those cast members, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Sam Elliott, Isabel May, or someone else? Time will tell. In the interim, check out the trailer and wait for ‘Bass Reeves’ this fall.
