Ding Dong, the Bell Is Rung

Nov 7, 2024

Editor’s Note: The following contains spoilers for The Masked Singer Season 12 Episode 6.

It’s time to have some fun, fun, fun as it’s The Masked Singer Season 12 Group B Finals! The three contenders, Goo, Wasp, and Bluebell kick off the night with a performance of “Fun, Fun, Fun” by The Beach Boys. They certainly set the tone for ’60s Night! The panel, all decked out in their own favorite ’60s frocks, has a tough decision on their hands. Will the “Ding Dong Keep It On” Bell be used? One masked singer will move on. But is this the Group that has the most deserving group of competitors to have two representatives in the Quarter Finals?

It’s the grooviest era of all, but host Nick Cannon reveals that this night will not be all peace and love. Considered by the panel as the most competitive group thus far, The Masked Singer does not disappoint when it comes to talent. Household names? Now that’s a different story. With a potential double elimination hanging in the balance, it’s another exciting night of musical celebration.

We Are Torn To See Bluebell Eliminated

It’s time for Bluebell to show off her talent. In her clue package, she reveals that she loves singing, dancing, and expressing her creativity because there was a time when she did not have a drop of inspiration in her bucket. She was at the top of her field, but when things stopped going her way, she wondered if anyone would still love her. Her ideas dried up. She had writer’s block. But it all changed when she became a mother as the inspiration came flowing back. While her clue package doesn’t reveal too many new ideas, there are images of a torn-up carnival ticket and a jar of sugar. Could Bluebell’s identity be hiding in plain sight? Well, if you’re TORN, just go listen to this artist’s hit record of the same name.

For her performance, Bluebell let loose with her take on “Do You Love Me” by The Contours.” She captures the heart and soul of the ’60s with her fun performance. Vocally, it’s not as dominating as her counterparts, but when it comes to getting the audience to dance along, they mash potatoed right in the crowd. Representing strong women everywhere, the panel loves her for sure. Her Invention of the ’60s is the iconic Easy Bake Oven. So what does Bluebell cook up? Well, a Vegimite sandwich, of course! We knew that this was likely someone from Down Under, but this clue confirms all suspicions. This must be Natalie Imbruglia! Are the judges torn over who this is? Ken Jeong believes it’s Rose Byrne, as he states that she was in the movie Neighbors with Seth Rogan. Bluebell knows that Jeong is both right and wrong since Imbruglia portrayed Beth Brennan on the hit Australian series Neighbours. Rita Ora guesss a different Neighbours star, the pop diva herself, Kylie Minogue, while Jenny thinks it’s Naomi Watts.

As stated at the top of the show, the audience and panel would vote for their favorite singer, and the singer with the least number of votes would be unmasked. Sadly, it is the end of the line for Bluebell. For their final guesses, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg says Naomi Watts, Robin Thicke goes with Isla Fisher, Ken Jeong selects Rose Byrne, and Rita Ora says Kylie Minogue. Unfortunately for the panel, none of them are correct. Bluebell officially is Natalie Imbruglia!

The House of Rising Goo Delivers One of the Best Performances of the Show

Can Goo go all the way? In his clue package, he shares that he’s feeling all warm and gooey inside. He says he’s just fully believing in himself. He offers a story about how he once had a major goal and scraped up just enough money to make it. He was on borrowed slime. We love a pun. He says he has worked harder than anyone else and then got a rare call that changed everything. With this past year being far out, he says it’s been a total rush as he is rising to greatness because nothing is impossible if you bet on yourself. The images in the clue package contain a rook chess piece, a sack of gold, and a music stand with music and a conductor’s baton on it. The blaring clue here could be the chess piece. If it is Kobie Turner, he is known for his recent rookie season on the Los Angeles Rams.

Goo has soul but also shows he can rock out as he sings the classic The Animals hit “The House of the Rising Sun.” Goo offers exceptional performance, a range of skills, and an unimaginable skill set. Good god, Goo is good! This performance could easily go down in history as one of the best performances in The Masked Singer’s history. If Goo wins this season, look back at this key performance that sold it. To celebrate the ’60s theme, one final clue is revealed for each celebrity that connects to the theme. They are the Inventions of the ’60s. If this doesn’t make you feel old, I don’t know what will! For Goo, he shows the 1964 invention, Jello! Inside the jello is a whistle. This prompts Goo to sing an off-tune rendition of “The Star Spangled Banner.” Kobie Turner is infamous for his pre-game performances of the National Anthem at various sporting events. Yet another clue that could define our masked celebrity! Since this is a guessing game, the guesses from the panel include Brian McKnight, Anthony Hamilton, and Leon Bridges.

Wasp, There It Is

Wasp is back again to bring all the emotions to the stage. In his clue package, he reveals that he is dedicating this to his mother, who was his hero. He says she was creative and loved Halloween. She served as his protector from the monsters under his bed and the kids in the neighborhood who stole his bike. He reveals that as he got older, he saw the cracks in her armor, but no amount of money or love could mend her broken wings. He knows that while he feels like a superhero under the Wasp armor, this would have brought her so much joy. She might even have wanted to steal his costume and wear it herself. There are images of a treasure map and a stethoscope. Can X mark the spot for this singer?

His emotional performance of “Ain’t No Way” by Aretha Franklin brought a silent sway across the room. It is a captivating performance that got the panel in their feels. Vocally, Wasp is exceptionally skilled. The ease into his falsetto is pure. With the panel on their feet, it even makes Rita Ora cry. For his Invention of the ’60s, it is the ATM. And then, suddenly, the Automatic Teller Machine makes it rain money. Well, bills with Robin Thicke’s face on it. Wasp says that, like the bill, he’s also hit a million. That could mean so many things! The guesses for Wasp include Mario, Craig David, Eric Benet, and Jason Derulo. One of them is very likely right, but it might be some time before we discover Wasp’s identity.

With Bluebell unmasked, the Battle Royale is officially between Goo and Wasp. For the Battle Royale, both artists perform their own rendition of “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” by Marvin Gaye. It’s easily the most competitive Battle Royale in the history of the series. First up, Goo. His version of the hit track is a very smooth, modern rendition. To say it’s cool is an understatement. Wasp goes with the classic approach, again utilizing his effortless falsetto to reach new heights. The panel knows that these two artists could easily be the two finalists at the end. With fate in the panel’s hands, they decide the Group B champ is Wasp. It’s the right choice, as Wasp will be joining Buffaloes in the quarterfinals. With less than three minutes left in the episode, it was evident what decision the panel was about to make. So who is Goo? Ding, dong the bell is rung! Before Goo can unmask, Jenny McCarthy stops the proceedings. The bell has been rung, and Goo will join Wasp in the quarterfinals!

The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8:00pm on Fox. All episodes are available to stream on Hulu.

The talent is there proving it’s hard to eliminate anyone!ProsThe talent in Group B is unmatched.60s Night provided a celebration of a great decade through music and inventions. ConsObvious isn’t a bad thing, but we knw what would happen.
