‘Dune’ Prequel Series Premieres On HBO & Max On November 17

Oct 17, 2024

After the box office success of “Dune: Part Two” earlier this year, it’s a matter of when, not if, Denis Villeneuve completes his planned filmic triptych with a “Dune: Messiah” adaptation. But fans of Frank Herbert‘s original novel know that “Messiah” jumps ahead in time a bit before its events unfold. That means Villeneuve ideally must wait for Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya & co. to age some and do another project or two in the interim.

But fear not, “Dune” heads: Warner Bros. and HBO have another Arrakis-set tale ready for audiences soon. How soon?  Soon enough for the studio and network to show off a new “Dune: Prophecy” trailer at New York Comic-Con today.  Inspired by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson‘s novel “Sisterhood Of Dune,” the prequel series takes place 10,000 years before the events of Villeneuve’s “Dune” films and follows the origin of the fearsome and influential Bene Gesserit.
Here’s an official synopsis for “Dune: Prophecy,” courtesy of HBO:
From the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, DUNE: PROPHECY follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.
“Dune: Prophecy” stars Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, with Travis Fimmell, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, and Sarah-Sofie Boussnina.  Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, and Edward Davis also star.  Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Camilla Beeput, Jihae, Tabu, Charirthra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha round out the main cast.
Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer on the series.  Diane Ademu-John co-develops the series and is also an executive producer.  Anna Foerster directs multiple episodes and serves as executive producer. Other executive producers include Jordan Goldberg, Mark Tobey, John Cameron, Matthew King, Scott Z. Burns, and Jon Spaihts.  Herbert, Byron Merritt, and Kim Herbert also serve as executive producers through the Frank Herbert estate, with Anderson co-producing.  “Dune: Prophecy” is a HBO and Legendary Television co-production.
So what secrets of the Bene Gesserit will “Dune: Prophecy” reveal? Find out when the series airs on HBO and Max on November 17. Watch the NYCC trailer below.
