Embattled ‘Star Wars’ Series Canceled After One Season
Aug 20, 2024
The embattled “Star Wars” series, “The Acolyte,” is no more.
According to Deadline, Lucasfilm has canceled “The Acolyte” after only one season. This is a rare move for the studio, as its “Star Wars” Disney+ output has yet to cancel a show before now. But to say we are not surprised by this move in an understatement.

Created by Leslye Headland, “The Acolyte” tells the story of Osha and Mae, twin sisters who find themselves on opposite sides of the epic good vs. evil war between the Jedi and the Sith. The series had a strong start, as is the case for most “Star Wars” content on the streaming service, but viewership fell off pretty hard, with “The Acolyte” dropping out of Nielsen’s Top 10 after only a few episodes. In addition, the series was review-bombed by the toxic fanbase within the “Star Wars” online community. Those folks were upset over inclusion of LGBTQ characters and diversity amongst the cast. All this to say, it’s not all that surprising to see “The Acolyte” leave us after one season.
Unfortunately, that also means that many of the unanswered questions from Season 1 just won’t be explored any longer. The season finale of “The Acolyte” featured numerous plot teases that will remain cliffhangers. It is clear the folks involved were laying the groundwork for a Season 2 that won’t ever come.

The cast for the series includes Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Jodie Turner-Smith, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Carrie-Anne Moss.
You can still watch “The Acolyte” Season 1 on Disney+ now.
