Emilia Clarke Shares Her ‘Best Day Ever’ Filming Secret Invasion
Aug 13, 2023
Emilia Clarke, who plays the G’iah in the series Secret Invasion, recently shared her excitement about filming the show’s finale. In a June interview with Marvel.com, she revealed that the best day she ever had on set was during the filming of a fight scene between her character, G’iah, and Gravik. Clarke had a blast performing stunts, especially when she was suspended on wires to make it look like she was flying. She compared the experience to riding theme park attractions like trapeze or roller coasters, and couldn’t stop giggling throughout the shoot. She said:
“There was a part of this fight where I was on a [stunt] chariot. Then I was doing all the running, but I wasn’t actually running. I was on a chariot, which was being pulled by a car. And then my favorite bit is they put me on the wires!
I literally was like, this is my best day ever. I’m a theme park-riding kind of gal. Give me a trapeze. Give me a roller coaster. It felt exactly like that. I just kept giggling. I couldn’t stop giggling. It was genuinely the funnest day I’ve ever had on set – ever, ever, ever.”
Secret Invasion, starring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, is based on a popular Marvel Comics event from 2008. The show has received mixed feedback from both critics and audiences. Some viewers appreciated the development of Nick Fury’s character and how his journey unfolds, while others were disappointed, feeling that it didn’t meet their expectations compared to other Marvel shows on Disney+.
The series was highly anticipated by Marvel fans, as it promised a gripping spy thriller with grounded characters and a departure from traditional superhero-focused stories. Despite the initial excitement, Secret Invasion fell short for many fans as it progressed. Some were displeased with the decision to kill off a beloved character in the opening episode and the use of AI-generated opening titles, which they found lacking compared to other productions.

Secret Invasion’ Creators Respond to Mixed Reviews
Marvel
On Rotten Tomatoes, Secret Invasion earned an average score of 56% from both critics and audiences. However, the show’s finale, Episode 6, faced criticism and currently has a low 8% approval rating. Despite this, Ali Selim, one of the creators, remains optimistic about the show’s potential future. In an interview with Variety, he highlighted the interesting storylines and plot threads introduced in the first season, which could be further explored if a second season were to happen.
Reflecting on the season finale, Selim addressed the mixed reactions from audiences and expressed his perspective on the varying reviews. He doesn’t feel discouraged by the mixed responses, recognizing that every project can resonate differently with individuals for various reasons. He emphasized that unanimous positive reviews might not necessarily lead to immense box office success, as people’s preferences can vary widely. Selim noted that Marvel’s fan base is known for its passionate and devoted nature, which can sometimes lead to high expectations.
“I don’t feel bad about mixed reviews. If you had unanimously good reviews, every movie would gross $10 billion, trillion dollars, right? [Projects] resonate with different people at different times for different reasons, and Marvel has a very devoted — even rabid — fan base who have expectations and when their expectations aren’t fulfilled, they move in the other direction; they give it a thumbs down.”
