Every Movie Leaving Hulu in December 2023

Dec 7, 2023

Hulu gets ever closer to becoming just more Disney+. They’ve got a great month, though, for December with all the Christmas movies you could want. This is the streaming service you need if you’re looking to have Christmas Vacation gently playing in the background of your holidays like most people – that perfect blend of comedy and painful disaster to accompany your holiday season.

That said, you should be excited about some of the movies leaving us this month. They vary wildly from Will Ferrell comedies to vampire dramas, and no, we don’t mean The Blade Trilogy, which is also leaving. With that said, let’s look at the best movies leaving Hulu in December 2023.

Interview with the Vampire
Leaving Hulu on Dec. 31

When you think of vampires, you may remember Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen portrayal. Twilight brought a lot of glamour to the idea of being what amounts to a night owl serial killer. Author Anne Rice saw the whole topic of vampires differently. Instead of a drama like True Blood, these vampires in Interview With the Vampire delve into how terrible it is to live for 300+ years without real friends or associates. The few people you actually do know, you hate because they’ve enslaved you.

What unfolds is a toxic marriage between an innocent and moody Brad Pitt and an arrogant Tom Cruise. They hate each other, but what keeps them bound together is that oppressive fear of being alone in a metaphor for an awful marriage that keeps going long after it should. It’s unreal how much sexual tension there is between the two without any romantic plot. All the while, their vampire daughter watches, learning from Cruise’s callous and cold nature along with Pitt’s human approach to vampirism.

It’s one of the precious few movies that explore concepts beyond vampires just being sexy and alluring. Suddenly, they’re more like serial killers who are toxic people you’d be scared to know. They kill for fun and have a disdain for anyone but their own kind. If you watch the movie and still can’t get enough after this faithful adaptation, try reading one of Rice’s many Vampire Chronicle books that started the whole thing right on the streets of New Orleans.

Elf
Leaving Hulu on Dec. 31
Elf Release Date October 9, 2003 Director Jon Favreau Cast Will Ferrell, James Caan, Bob Newhart, Edward Asner, Mary Steenburgen, Zooey Deschanel Genres Comedy, Family, Fantasy, Romance

Right in time for the holiday season. There’s only one other movie (Christmas Vacation) that has this level of mass appeal, and funny enough, it’s also leaving Hulu at the end of December. On the topic of Elf, though, who doesn’t know about it?

Will Ferrell plays one of Santa’s not-so-little helpers, who leaves the North Pole and is forced to live in the civilian world while searching for his biological dad. But what does an elf do when he can’t do the obvious? Well, lots of things, most of them unsuccessfully. But that’s just where the fun starts. One thing is for sure: there will never be a proper remake of this one. Catch Elf before it leaves Hulu this holiday season.

Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby
Leaving Hulu on Dec. 31

Talladega Nights follows Will Ferrell’s character, Ricky Bobby, a professional NASCAR driver. However, the film is much more than that. Talladega Nights highlights hilarious aspects of American culture, playing to the strengths of Ferrell and his co-star, John C. Reilly. Luckily, the film doesn’t fade into the background as much as other Ferrell comedies might.

Talladega Nights is such a fast-paced movie that gets funnier as it goes along. You know it’s a good movie when Will Ferrell isn’t even the funniest character. No, that goes to his dad in this movie, Gary Cole, who shows up whenever he feels like it. If you aren’t quoting this movie to your family and friends, you need to tell them you’re going to “come at them like a spider monkey.”

The Muppet Christmas Carol
Leaving Hulu on Dec. 31
The Muppet Christmas Carol Release Date December 10, 1992 Director Brian Henson Cast Michael Caine, Dave Goelz, Steve Whitmire, Jerry Nelson, Frank Oz, David Rudman Genres Comedy, Documentary, Family, Fantasy, Musical

The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the most enjoyable adaptations of Charles Dicken’s novels that’s ever been put to screen. It’s fun, accurate to the book, and features some catchy little songs. It also features one of the best performances of Scrooge there is, with Michael Caine giving a Shakespearean stage performance alongside a bunch of adorable Muppets. Never once does he let that affect his performance as a strikingly serious Scrooge, as cruel and cold as can be.

As for everything else, The Muppet Christmas Carol is one of the funniest Muppet movies, as the jokes remain funny till the credits roll. For those interested, this was actually the first Muppet film that got made after Jim Henson’s untimely death and featured Steve Whitmire replacing him as the voice of Kermit.

Tropic Thunder
Leaving Hulu on Dec. 31

Tropic Thunder is a movie about people making a movie making a movie. Really. You really can’t talk enough about how funny this movie is. The five leads are filming a war movie and are dropped in a hostile jungle environment. So they’re suddenly thrust into being the action heroes they’re portraying.

Every character is hilarious in their own way: Jack Black is in a world of his own as a struggling drug addict, Ben Stiller is trying to win an Oscar, Nick Nolte is the most over-the-top Vietnam vet ever, and Robert Downey Jr. is an Australian actor who went through pigmentation reassignment surgery to play a Black man.

There’s so much to unpack with Tropic Thunder from the Wii Sports Tennis bit that will surely be a hit of nostalgia for many, to the epicness of Jack Black doing his best Chris Farley impression. If you’re interested in every single movie leaving Hulu in December 2023, you can check right here.
