From comedies to dramas and everything in between, Apple TV+ has something for everyone to watch in July. Whether viewers prefer to watch something by themselves or with the entire family, the streaming service has plenty of options to suit anyone’s needs next month.

Sunny

Based on the novel The Dark Manual by Colin O’Sullivan, Sunny is a dark comedy that follows Suzie Sakamoto (Rashida Jones), an American woman living in Kyoto, Japan. After her husband, Masa (Hidetoshi Nishijima), and her son disappear in a mysterious plane crash, Suzie’s life is completely turned upside down. In the wake of her grief, she’s gifted a domestic robot, known as Sunny (Joanna Sotomura), from her husband’s electronics company.

Upon receiving Sunny, Suzie initially resents the robot’s attempts to fill the void in her life. However, it doesn’t take long for the pair to develop a friendly relationship. Realizing her husband’s occupation wasn’t what she originally thought, Suzie and Sunny work together to uncover the truth behind Masa’s work, as well as what really happened to Suzie’s family. As a result, Suzie quickly finds herself tangled up in a dangerous and enigmatic world she never knew existed. Sunny is streaming on Apple TV+ on July 10.

Me is a coming-of-age superhero drama about a 12-year-old boy named Ben (Lucian-River Chauhan). While at a new school with a newly blended family, Ben discovers he has an extraordinary talent for transforming into anyone he encounters. A shapeshifter in the throes of middle school, which is full of bullies, crushes, and school dances, Ben must figure out what kind of person he is and who he wants to be in life. When he has the ability to be anyone, he finds it hard to simply be himself. With his stepsister, Max (Abigail Pniowsky), as his ally, Ben begins to harness his powers and uncover the secrets behind the mysterious tragedies that continue to befall his community. Me is streaming on Apple TV+ on July 12.

Lady in the Lake

Based on the novel of the same name by Laura Lippman, Lady in the Lake follows two women, Maddie Schwartz (Natalie Portman) and Cleo Sherwood (Moses Ingram), whose lives converge in the city of Baltimore in 1966. When the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl named Tessie Fine rocks the city, Maddie’s journalist aspirations lead her on a path of obsession.

A housewife and mother who never tried to achieve anything else in life, Maddie eventually leaves her doting husband to pursue a career as a newspaper reporter. Such decisions lead her on a collision course with Cleo, a hard-working woman with numerous jobs juggling with motherhood and doing everything she can to advance Baltimore’s progressive Black agenda. However, not everything is as straightforward as it might seem, and the discovery of the lady in the lake will cement the pair’s connection in unexpected ways. Lady in the Lake is streaming on Apple TV+ on July 19.

Time Bandits

Adapted from the 1981 film of the same name, Time Bandits is a fantasy adventure suitable for viewers of all ages. The series follows an 11-year-old history nerd named Kevin (Kal-El Tuck) who discovers a time-traveling portal in his own bedroom. He then sets out on the most epic journey of a lifetime. With a motley group of thieves by his side, his historical knowledge is put to the test as they traverse time and space during their many adventures.

At the helm of it all is Penelope (Lisa Kudrow), who leads her ragtag group of marauders on numerous thrilling quests to save Kevin’s parents, as well as the entire world. The series also stars Tadhg Murphy, Roger Jean Nsengiyumva, Rune Temte, Kiera Thompson, Rachel House, Matt King, George Houvardas, Zoe Ventoura, and Charlyne Yi. Time Bandits is streaming on Apple TV+ on July 24.

Women in Blue

Women in Blue is a Spanish-language crime drama that follows four women who join Mexico’s first female police force in 1971. Inspired by true events, the tenacious women defy the conservative norms of the time only to discover their squad was manufactured as a publicity stunt to distract the media from a serial killer terrorizing their fellow citizens. Given whistles rather than guns, the women central to the narrative exhaust every effort to be treated equally and make a difference in law enforcement.

As the serial killer continues to ravage the city, María (Bárbara Mori), who’s always wanted to be a detective, Ángeles (Ximena Sariñana), a genius fingerprint analyst, Gabina (Amorita Rasgado), the daughter of a renowned cop, and Valentina (Natalia Téllez), a young rebel who wants to make a difference, decide to set up their own investigation in secret. Given no male police officer has been able to bring the killer to justice, María and the others take it upon themselves to get the job done.
