With the ever-expanding world of streaming services, Netflix faces a challenge every month to select which TV series are to stay, to go, and to add to their versatile catalog of films and TV shows to continue appealing to audiences as their favorite form of entertainment around the globe.
The streaming service has been a fan favorite, offering original series created by the platform as well as TV series created by other studios like PBS and CBS. It offers diverse content, from teen love stories to documentaries to children’s TV shows. One thing is guaranteed with Netflix, and that is that audiences are never bored. With that being said, here is a list of the TV shows parting ways with Netflix at the beginning of May.
Angelina Ballerina (Season 5-6)

Netflix is known to cater to adults, but the streaming service also has a variety of content for children. Angelina Ballerina is a British-animated children’s television show that premiered in the early 2000s. Based on the children’s book series of the same name, the TV series follows a young mouse, Angelina Mouseling, who loves ballet and dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. The cast includes Tara Cressida “Finty” Williams and her mother, the incomparable Judi Dench.

Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads is a harrowing war documentary series that examines the Einsatzgruppen, Nazi mobile killing squads that were responsible for the mass murder of Jews, Romani, and Soviet prisoners in Eastern Europe. The series includes the testimony of witnesses, survivors, and the Nazis themselves as they reveal the truth about one of the darkest times in world history. This documentary is unique from other World War II documentaries as it dives deeper into the systematic removal tactics used by Nazis and their collaborators. The four-episode series will be removed from Netflix next month, which gives audiences until the end of April to stream the documentary. Einsatzgruppen: The Nazi Death Squads will leave Netflix on May 1.
Hong Kong West Side Stories (Season 1)

Hong Kong West Side Stories is a drama series released in 2018 starring Louis Cheung, Myolie Wu, Justin Cheung, and many more exceptional actors. While the show will be removed from Netflix on May 1, it will be available to stream on The Roku Channel.
The 12-episode drama, while also a dark comedy, follows the intimate lives of young men and women in Hong Kong and explores their connection through love, lust, separation, and deceit. The ensemble of actors presents the reality of human connection and the ups and downs of relationships. Just like reality, this series is bittersweet. Be sure to tune in before Hong Kong West Side Stories leaves Netflix on May 1.
Medici (Season 1-3)

Medici is a historical drama created by Frank Spotnitz and Nicholas Meyer. The television stars Richard Madden, Dustin Hoffman, Daniel Sharman, and many more incredible actors. The series premiered in 2016 and explains the political and artistic pursuits of the Medici family, powerful figures during the Renaissance. Each season follows the story of a Medici family member and the political challenges they face.

Seasons 2 and 3, Medici: The Magnificent, were split into two parts and tell the story of Lorenzo de’ Medici, Cosimo’s grandson, as he encounters the same struggles to preserve his family’s influence in Italy. The third season shows the lengths Lorenzo would go to for his family’s legacy and concludes his story. This historical drama will have audiences on the edge of their seats. Seasons 1-3 of Medici are leaving Netflix on May 1.
Octonauts (Season 1-4)

Another children’s animated show leaving Netflix in May is Octonauts. Created by Meomi: Vicki Wong and Michael C. Murphy, Octonaughts initially aired on the BBC Channel CBeebies in 2010, and from that, Netflix created a spinoff titled Octonaugts: Above & Beyond.
The series follows a group of underwater explorers that call themselves the Octonauts, and they roam around the ocean looking for aquatic creatures in need of assistance. The team is made up of eight members: Captain Barnacles, the polar bear, Kwazii Kitten, the cat and second in command, Peso Penguin, the onboard medic, Dashi Dog, Shellington Sea Otter, Tweak Bunny, Professor Inkling Octopus, and Tunip the Vegimal. The team of explorers is always ready to go, so don’t wait too long to introduce them to the little ones before they leave. Octonauts is leaving Netflix on May 1.
Simon (Season 1)

Simon is originally a French animated television series based on the books written by Stéphanie Blake. The series premiered in France in 2016 before being adapted for worldwide audiences. The plot centers around Simon, an adventurous rabbit, as he navigates fun while learning the importance of responsibilities and communication. This series is a well-grounded children’s show with relatable characters, talented voice actors, and plenty of valuable lessons for kids to learn. If you want an educational yet adventurous story for your kids to see, Simon will be available on Netflix until May 1.
Boys Over Flowers (Limited Series)

Boys Over Flowers is a Korean drama starring Lee Min-ho, Kim Hyun-joong, Ku Hye-sun, and other talented actors that made this show successful. Created by Jeon Ki-sang and Yoon Ji-ryun, the popular K-drama tells the story of a working-class girl who attends an elite high school, Shin Hwa High, and falls for a rich kid who belongs to an influential clique in school. The show was initially released in 2009 and garnered popularity worldwide. Unfortunately, Boys Over Flowers will be removed from Netflix on May 3, but there’s still time to binge-watch the 25-episode drama.
